Laura leaves the opera house during an intermission. When she returns, she finds several doors locked and is unable to immediately resume work. While trying to find her way back to the orchestra, she is navigated towards the roof of the opera house. Her murdered body is later discovered on the roof, and she seems to have been beaten to death. While investigating the case, Logan and Barek discover that Laura was preparing to accuse the opera conductor Philip Reinhardt for sexual harassment. The notoriously short-tempered Reinhardt has been the on-and-off boyfriend of Laura's mother for over a decade, and was the closest thing that Laura ever had to a father. Laura's mother Gillian Booth (a famous opera singer) claims that Philip was simply flirting with Laura. Gillian's increasingly suspicious behavior leads the detectives to conclude that either she knows who killed her daughter and is trying to take advantage of the murder, or she killed her own daughter and is trying to incriminate Philip.
