The new Outpatients officer, Valerie Sinclair, fails to impress Ewart when she announces plans for budget cuts at the hospital, whilst Cyril revisits Holby having left during the "off-air" time. A security guard is assaulted by two would-be burglars, a female mechanic suffers a serious paralyzing injury and Duffy receives the worst news from her ex-boyfriends' sister. Most of the episode is spent with casual references to staff previously related to Holby who have moved on, tying up the loose ends and explaining the character shifts from the end of the last series to the beginning of this one.

A male social worker answering a domestic disturbance call is viciously assaulted by the drunken bully suspect, who continues his unruly behaviour towards his partner's hungry young boy after he calls out for food one too many times. A pick-pocket prisoner (Kenneth Cope) also attends the casualty department under police guard with a suspected heart attack, but the staff are unconvinced it is genuine; and an elderly woman suffering from a gangrenous foot is admitted to the hospital by her son who insists she receives private care.

A small boy catches his nether regions in his trouser zip; a preacher believes he has AIDS and Ewart takes a boat trip to escape his new nemesis Valerie Sinclair.

An old woman smuggling drugs is taken ill and there is a disagreement about whether the police should be notified; a young Catholic woman attempts suicide in church because of an unwanted pregnancy.

A female teacher is the victim of bullying by students; everything becomes too much for Megan and it's the end of the road for Ewart.

Episode 6
Holby A&E sends David and Cyril to the scene of two crashed minibuses full of school kids after one swerves to avoid a car; a rugby player breaks his nose and Charlie finds Valerie snooping around in Ewart's office.

Episode 7
Problems start when a baby stops crying; two workers at a paint stripping factory present with symptoms of solvent abuse.

Episode 8
The parents of a young hit and run victim face the decision of whether or not to allow organ donation and the team perform an emergency tracheotomy on a young asthma patient.

Episode 9
A disastrous Guy Fawkes party results in numerous casualties including Valerie Sinclair.

Episode 10
A man is admitted vomiting blood, due to side effects of a drug prescribed by his GP. David discovers the GP responsible is also the new locum medical registrar.
