Episode 1

My First Day

Part One. New colleague, Toby de Silva, is immediately thrown into the deep end when he joins Holby City's A&E Department when a bomb goes off on a Coach, and is unfortunate enough to experience what is possibly the worst first day any employee has ever had to endure.

Episode 2

Charlie's Anniversary

Events occur in parallel with the previous episode but from alternative perspectives. Animal rights activists end up in Casualty when their bombing campaign backfires. New doctor Toby starts and is quickly nicknamed Dracula - "because he sucks"

Episode 3

Meltdown

Handsome new doctor Adam Trueman starts by saving the life of a suicidal young mother who has hidden her baby in a cement mixer. Unfortunately, his act of bravado is filmed by a pretty young journalist whom he later snogs in the lift at Holby. Nathan's severely premature daughter is unable to fight for life and is allowed to die; Paramedic/joker Jeff returns, but Josh confirms Cyd's transfer, breaking Dixie's heart. Alice, following in the footsteps of predecessor Sam, comes out from behind the reception desk and starts training as a nurse. Guppy, now on morphine stolen from the hospital drugs supply, misdiagnoses another injury and hands in his notice.

Episode 4

No End of Blame

Casualty's preferred car crash road is the location for car crashes 201 & 202, caused by a white van man driving while on his phone and drinking a beverage. Unfortunately, his self harming young daughter has stowed away and suffers life threatening injuries. Guppy visits MP Harry in Westminster, interrupts his press conference and tries to persuade him to return to Holby. Tess lets Adam know she knows it was his fault the newspaper woman he bonked got the story in the news. We are introduced to the lady & her daughter Josh met while on sabbatical. Maggie visits her father in residential care. The Fox woman asks for Nathan's resignation.

As Harry returns, Guppy leaves.

Harry's first job is to sack arch rival Nathan.

Inappropriate Behaviour

Harry, under pressure from admin babe Marilyn Fox, tells his team that admissions such as the woman with sunburn and artists of the urine will now be referred to their GPs. Casualty Car Crash 203 occurs when a woman executive at the end of an evening on the razzle with male underlings is raped by her taxi driver. In retaliation she attacks him, causing him to lose control of the car and swerve into the path of a skip lorry whose driver has fuelled up on vodka before taking to the road. Paramedics and Harry attend the crash scene where Harry insists the woman helps to stem the rapist's bleeding. It's bad news for Ruth as the loud mouthed drunken yob skip driver turns out to be her estranged dad. Keen on revenge, Nadia steers Ruth into treating him. The horrible old man uses emotional manipulation to get his daughter to give plod an alcohol free blood sample. Josh's potential new girlfriend Devika's daughter Sajani, fearful about her operation to remove facial scarring, goes missing and is discovered hiding under Ruth's bed. Josh shows the child his own scars received in the line of duty and the child agrees to her operation. Tess persuades the rape victim to press charges. Alice takes an assertiveness class but is followed there and has the unwelcome company of Kelsey who embarrasses Alice by pretending to be an alcoholic and a sexaholic. Kelsey's photo of Alice being greeted by the class supervisor is photoshopped into pornography by tosser receptionist TC and displayed on notice boards. Kelsey makes peace with Alice. Nadia tries to make peace with Ruth.

My Aim Is True

Flaws appear in Harry's 'no inappropriate attenders' policy when a recently discharged patient is rushed back to the department after being beaten up by her husband. UKTV PLAY.

As One Door Closes...

Josh has a breakdown when faced with a knife attack victim; all staff now given theoretically amusing nicknames on a website.

Episode 10

Finding the Words

At Maggie's house, the atmosphere between lovestruck Josh and Devika as she and her daughter prepare to return to India is heavy with the awkwardness of things said and unsaid. A couple arriving home are unpleasantly surprised to be met at the airport by the woman's unwell mother who collapses necessitating paramedics' attendance. Ruthless admin babe Marilyn puts pressure on Harry to sack Charlie or Tess. In a bid to circumvent the redundancy scenario, Harry prepares a document which he presents to the board, but this has no effect. Adam makes the mistake of taking Toby with him when breaking the news of a man's death to his relatives. A displeased Adam packs Toby off on ambulance duty with Dixie and Jeff. Prat receptionist TC, Adam and Kelsey find amusement in Ruth and Alice's theoretically witty nicknames allocated by the as yet unidentified blogger of 'Chuckles' and 'Squeak' respectively. Ruth makes it clear to Adam she thinks it's unprofessional and later takes revenge of the red nose variety. Casualty Car Crash 204 occurs when the man who arrived at the airport turns out to be a heroin mule who loses consciousness while driving, leaving the road and careering into a field, knocking down a woman then pinning her father against a tractor. When the man dies, Toby volunteers to break the news to his daughter. Josh asks Charlie if he can move back in with him and Charlie agrees, but Maggie persuades him to tell Josh no and to make one last attempt to win Devika's heart. Josh goes to the airport and buys a ticket to India. Harry tells Charlie and Tess one of them will be made redundant.

Episode 11

A House Divided

Toby and Kelsey arrive for work with hangovers resulting in some fairly predictable mockery from those unaffected. Harry reiterates his ultimatum to Charlie and Tess who are in defiant mood. However, the situation causes friction between them. Charlie receives a postcard from Josh, happy in India. A most unpleasant junkie brews up gear in his grannie's house causing a big explosion resulting in three casualties. Greg disobeys Dixie's orders and extricates the junkie from the wreckage. Some staff believe that Adam is the mystery blogger calling himself 'Toxicshark', but he naturally denies this, pointing out that the author doesn't know the difference between 'their', 'there' and 'they're'. Insisting he needs no treatment, the junkie strikes out, first by kicking Kelsey, then by smashing up his cubicle and punching Toby. Greg is shortlisted for the rapid response unit. Toby is next in the queue to be accused of being 'Toxicshark'. Maggie registers her disgust at being nicknamed 'The Yorkshire Pudding' - possibly because she's from Lancashire. Now completely deranged, the junkie crashes the operating theatre where his son lies critically injured. Staff manage to bundle him into another room and barricade the doors until security arrive to take him down. He is sedated and plod arrest him for ABH. Kelsey believes Toby to be the blogger and gives him the cold shoulder. Greg transforms from arsehole into hero by bringing the junkie's gran her cat, unharmed by the explosion. Greg then adopts the cat as gran is staying in hospital for an operation.

Episode 12

Strangers When We Meet

Greg starts training with the rapid response unit. Ruth treats Toby as her assistant. Greg is called out to Alzheimer's sufferer Mrs Watts, then by a pretty and flirtatious young woman who is filming a pair of idiotic young men performing stunts using a car. Greg drives away, unaware that one of the idiots is car surfing on the roof of his ambulance. When Greg brakes for a pedestrian, the fool is thrown into the road sustaining injuries. The scenario is filmed by the young woman. Kelsey and now Nadia are being horrible to Toby. Ruth is allocated to accompany Greg on his calls, the first of which is to the woman with Alzheimer's, then to a man with toothache who lives on the top floor of a block of flats. Ruth tells the man ambulance crews don't treat toothache and to see a dentist. Predicting events in certain parts of the country fifteen years in the future, the man tells them there are no NHS dentists available in his area. Their next call is to a Traffic Warden who has been attacked by someone with a hammer. The camera toting flirt makes a play for Greg, but she hints she has a secret agenda. Greg makes a third visit to Mrs Watts who this time is furious that he's come back for no reason. The hammer victim takes an obvious liking to Ruth who is treating him.

Episode 13

How Soon Is Now

There is a fire caused by smokers at Charlie's school; Porter Big Mac starts and the identity of the blogger is revealed.

Episode 14

Inheritance

A heroin addict kills his father whilst carrying out a ram raid; TC finally gets the bullet and Toby's high-flyer medic mum drops in to witness his typically abysmal doctoring performance.

Episode 15

Behind Closed Doors

Patients include a larger gentleman with a cash hungry woman 'carer' and a lottery winner who loses his foot during an argument with his wife. Louis crashes resus in search of his phone. Maggie talks to Toby to about his resignation.

Episode 16

Snowball

A man has heart attack while protesting about parking congestion. A soldier climbs a tall crane and jumps in the river to prove a point to his git of a dad. Louis is suspended from school for smoking dope. Tess volunteers for redundancy.

Episode 17

(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding

Charlie's day goes from bad to worse when he finds out his son Louis was involved in an attack at a Santa's Grotto, whilst Charlie himself gets involved in a skirmish with a patient who has an accident when trying to escape from police, which results in him placing his job on the line.

Episode 18

Take a Cup of Kindness Yet

On New Year's Eve, a madman shoots his mother then, with the unwitting help of Abs, gains entry to a disco where he shoots two more women. We are introduced to another of Harry's wild daughters and new consultant Zoe Hanna starts.

Episode 19

For Auld Lang Syne

In the aftermath of the disco shootings, Alice delivers the baby when she, a woman in labour and panic stricken Adam are stuck in a lift; Ruth tells a lie about Nadia which leads to her resignation.

Episode 20

Broken Homes

Casualty Car Crash 205 occurs when a lorry driver unlucky to pick up a violent girl hitcher ploughs into a caravan with a pregnant woman inside. Noel starts on reception. Abs starts a work to rule.

Episode 21

Adrenaline Rush

A woman with a rare disorder attempts to amputate her leg; a factory worker falls onto a vat of chocolate and a psycho joins the emergency department staff.

Episode 22

Take It Back

Adam beds a girl and next day finds himself working along side her; Abs continues his work to rule and Maggie's pregnant daughter does a bit of the old surprise visit.

Where's the Art in Heartache?

A misguided tag artist causes injuries and deaths.

Before a Fall

Brilliant but sad Ruth attempts to take her life.

Episode 25

Sex and Death

Harry reads Ruth's diary and excerpts of her time at ED are shown; meanwhile Adam and Zoe have an unsuccessful test snog.

Episode 26

Say Say My Playmate

While two unpleasant children attempt to recreate The Lost Boys (1987) by knifing an old man on the loose from a care home, it's Toby's turn to deliver a baby in an unusual location.

Episode 27

Silent All These Years

Harry & Caroline tell a reporter keen for gossip about Ruth's suicide bid to get stuffed. Hot on the heels of last episode's Slavic babe paramedic Snezana is Afro American cool gentleman Curtis. Another new face is smoothie surgeon Sean - ideal flirting material for Zoe. Adam continues his pursuit of Jessica. A panicking woman reverses her car into her daughter causing a horrendous injury. Caroline offers Toby a job previously offered to Ruth. A woman applies hairspray, lights a cigarette and sets herself on fire. She later accuses Jeff of racism. Harry sees off a bully then seals his own fate.

Episode 28

Thicker Than Water

Having leaked Ruth's diary to the press, Harry is sacked - but has he been able to persuade Charlie to give up his cushy job in a private clinic and come back to Holby? Meanwhile, comatose Ruth responds to Toby's presence. The persuasion of a rape victim storyline is from episode 33, and the persuader is Adam. (There is no Rita).

A fighting dog causes all kinds of mayhem.

Face the World

Zoe gets promoted to clinical lead in preference to Maggie. Abs gets a cold reception from his mother at his brother's funeral.

Episode 31

To Thine Own Self Be True

Zoe has been appointed Clinical Lead in favour of Maggie, but is given the impression by canny fox Marilyn that her married lover and board member Sean was not in favour of her promotion. Disappointed candidate Maggie is now housing her daughter Joanne, remarkably mature new born Granddaughter and Toby. An old drag queen collapses at an audition and fancies a bit of rough in the form of Jeff and something a bit smoother in the form of Adam. A boy challenges another to a boxing match for the favours of a girl resulting in injuries. Jessica is hurt to see Adam with a new snogging partner. Zoe calls it a day with Sean.

Episode 32

Bricks & Daughters

Ruth comes back to work but is unhappy about being given menial duties while shadowed by Abs. Joanne imposes on Maggie by getting her to babysit while on duty. Snezana temporarily relieves her and lullabyes bubba with "Molitva", Serbia's winner of Eurovision 2007. A man steals a child's doll believing it to be a real child then sustains an injury making his getaway. Abs and Adam conclude the man has dementia and could have a medical background. He later abducts Maggie's granddaughter. Cops raid a noisy birthday party at a warehouse used as a squat which is then torched resulting in a massive explosion and numerous casualties.

Episode 33

Someone's Lucky Night

A groom is raped on his stag night; the department is hit by a Norovirus outbreak. Adam's main objective is to recommence his sexual relationship with reluctant Jessica.

Episode 34

Walk the Line

Adam's one night stand Jessica doesn't want her colleagues to know she's married to Zoe's former lover Sean Anderson. Abs' old friend, alcoholic Stacey, gets sacked from his job and goes straight on the bottle then burns his arm cooking lunch. Casualty Car Crash 212 occurs when he attempts to drive out of the hospital car park. Other patients include a boy who gets Zoe and Jessica baffled by his claim to have amnesia. Gagging to resume sexual relations with her, Adam tricks Jessica into an unusual lunch break.

Episode 35

The Great Pretenders

Maggie's apparently massive house is now also home to Ruth as well as Joanne, Joanne's baby and Toby. Many interested buyers view a house that a woman and her son don't know the husband has put up for sale. The woman is badly burned when the son has a bonfire in the garden. Noel tries to sell a love potion to Adam who declines because he is already irresistible. Dad's Army star Ian Lavender appears as a man with a dislocated shoulder - Ruth tries unsuccessfully to relocate it so Toby has a go. Alice has had several dates with the apparently wonderful man she met on the internet, but is worried because he will want sex and she is a virgin. Kelsey continues to receive messages from an as yet unidentified admirer. Paramedic and practicing Christian Curtis tries to counsel a boy he knows who's been attacked with a nail gun. We are introduced to Alice's mum - entertaining an unclothed gentleman.

Episode 36

Love Is...

At Maggie's house, Ruth is still contemplating suicide while Maggie, Joanne and the baby witness Toby in a state of undress. When Ruth goes out for a run to escape her troubles, she is on hand to administer first aid to the victims of Casualty Car Crash 213 when a girl and her mother run into the path of a motor cyclist. Sexual liaisons between Zoe and Sean Anderson would appear to have resumed. When Adam is unable to save a patient's life he cries which prompts a kiss from Jessica. A woman having relations with a man of the cloth impales her hand on a nail. To the shocked Adam and Zoe, Sean Anderson reveals that Jessica is Mrs Anderson. While Maggie leaves Ruth holding the baby, Toby is seduced by Joanne.

Episode 37

Saturday Night Fever

Toby asks Ruth is he was any good at love making then goes happily off to work to the accompaniment of "Stayin' Alive" by The Bee Gees. Abs' alcoholic friend Stacey sups booze at a playground frequented by junkies while his young son entertains himself. Darkness falls and Stacey awakes from an alcohol induced slumber, attacks a do-gooder and the child impales himself on a used needle. Charlie and Louis help a young woman driver and a shop keeper in distress. Adam and Zoe give their respective married lovers a hard time. A security guard mistakenly parks up at a dogging site - Curtis and Snezana later make the same error. When the couple use a casualty cubicle to make love, Jessica douses them with cold water. Adam treats a woman patient who's pregnant but in theory cannot be.

Episode 38

When Love Came to Town

A hooker refuses to service a client then falls from a window trying to make her escape. Somewhat daft receptionist Noel's latest toy is a robot dog that urinates - Ruth damages it. Casualty Car Crash Road gets another visit when a woman comes to the department and asks to be sectioned because her husband has left her, then drives away causing Car Crash 214. Casualties include pedestrians and a couple of Elvis enthusiasts making their getaway to a new life. Turns out the car crash causing woman's husband is the hooker's boyfriend she was trying to escape to. Admin babe Marilyn announces the department will receive a tour of inspection by The Board, and proposes changes which Charlie dismisses. Adam and Jessica conclude the episode with a snog up.

Episode 39

Opposing Forces

Angry at admin babe Caroline Fox's speech on the radio about the her new baby, the Minor Injuries Unit, Charlie reverses his car into a cyclist who turns out to be a controversial new staff member. Big Mac composes more love letters on his laptop. Former Brookside and Neighbours cast members are among those taken ill at a Science Fiction Convention. Abs tells Ruth it would be to her advantage if she'd helped stressed Noel on reception admin. She is reluctant, but has helpful ideas. Adam and Jessica do yet more snogging.

Episode 40

Have a Go, Hero

What starts as a quiet shift soon changes when one from a pair of boys behaving suspiciously brings in a young girl run over by the other one in Casualty Car Crash 215 - a mystery which Maggie screams for help to investigate - and gets offered coffee - two cups of it - by Alice. Adam and Jessica are wrapped up in each other to the detriment of their patients. Newbie Simon offers a woman senior citizen with spinal cancer and a man with a leg injury private specialist treatment - in return for payment. Big Mac remains glued to his laptop throughout. Maggie's long, hard day is concluded with inconsiderate Joanne and Toby extracting the urine by getting her to babysit.

Episode 41

Is She Really Going Out with Him?

A woman with dementia crashes her noisy chav neighbour's bbq with disastrous consequences. Abs' boozed up mate Stacey seeks sanctuary. Maggie is shocked to discover Toby and her daughter are lovers.

Episode 42

They May Not Mean to But They Do

Physically scarred from her attack by the chav mum in the previous episode, Maggie is now emotionally hurt having found her crush Toby in her daughter's bed. She vents her unhappiness on admirer Charlie by dismissing his plans to get the Minor Injuries Unit shut down. A pregnant woman trying to elude a pursuing man causes Casualty Car Crash 216 by reversing into a woman in a wheelchair. The pursuing man also sustains injuries and is treated by unpleasant Simon Tanner (strangely uncredited in this episode) and is attacked by the pregnant woman's husband. The pursuing man transpires to be the pregnant woman's son given up for adoption when she was 17. Having discovered a stash of stolen syringes in Snezana's bag, then finding capsules of morphine missing, colleague Jeff pronounces she must be a junkie. Blood tests are carried out. Alice now knows Big Mac's secret. When the pregnant woman's son dies following complications, Simon frames Maggie for the death.

Episode 43

I Can Hear the Grass Grow

Abs' friend Stacey is involved in a road traffic accident (Casualty's 217th Car Crash) but claims he has been off the booze for days; while Toby eagerly searches for new accommodation for himself and Joanne, she dumps him.

Episode 44

Salt and Sugar

Big Mac reveals to Kelsey he is the tall, handsome, poetry quoting soldier she has been internet dating. Toby seeks new love with an old flame. An anorexic brother and sister are among the casualties.

Episode 45

Paradise Lost

Having to make his way home from school without adult supervision, young Lucas Anderson-Harrison is the victim of Casualty Car Crash 218 which occurs when his parents are with their respective lovers. Tanner's plan to frame Maggie unravels

Episode 46

The Things We Do For...

Marilyn Fox discovers Zoe and Sean are secret lovers and uses this to blackmail her into supporting Maggie's dismissal; Jeff discovers why Snezana has been stealing medications.
