Season 3 opens in 1959; and change is afoot in more ways than one, as the nuns and staff move into a new Nonnatus House; new sister Winifred (Victoria Yeates) and midwife Patsy Mount (Emerald Fennell) join the fold; Chummy (Miranda Hart) adjusts to her new life as a housewife; and Jenny (Jessica Raine) becomes the new nursing sister, a promotion that doesn't sit well with the more senior Trixie (Helen George). Among the season's plots: Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) and Trixie care for the female inmates at a prison; Jenny suffers a terrible loss; Shelagh (Laura Main) and Dr. Turner (Stephen McGann) decide to adopt a child; and, while helping Chummy care for her dying mother, Jenny makes an important decision about the trajectory of her career.
