Question: Any good guest stars besides Mandy Moore on Scrubs this season? Answer: Just Curb Your Enthusiasm's Cheryl Hines, but that's old news. Bill Lawrence tells me that "the biggest change people will see [when the show returns Jan. 3] is that the characters have aged. Instead of being young interns, now they're more teachers. The potential spoiler in question is a fortysomething guy named Bill whom Rose meets in her cancer support group. Answer: Something so huge happens in the first episode that series creator David Chase reportedly asked HBO to scale down its traditional splashy premiere at New York's Radio City Music Hall, and instead do a more intimate affair at the Museum of Modern Art. Apparently, he's worried that journalists like myself would spoil the big twist in advance of its airing on March 12. Of course, if he bothered to read AA, he'd know that I don't spoil. I tease. Question: In the Lost forums, Ana Lucia's sexual orientation is being questioned to no end. Can the producers clarify that for us? Answer: "She is straight," insists exec producer Carlton Cuse, effectively squashing my whole Ana Lucia-Rousseau theory. And what of rumors that another castaway may be harboring a same-sex crush? "To spill about whether a character currently on the island is gay would be at cross-purposes to our mission of keeping the characters' backstories shrouded in mystery," Cuse adds. "That's not saying any are… or aren't. But in the case of Ana Lucia, we will go on the record and say that her character is straight." OK, I've got a new theory: Jin and Mr. Eko. (C'mon, one has abs for days and the other doesn't go anywhere without his big stick. So obvious.)

Question: How come you never mentioned in your column the best new show on TV — Rome? Any spoilers about Season 2? Answer: I kinda-sorta fell off the Rome bandwagon after the first few episodes — regrettably so, considering I hear it got tons better as the season progressed. But you'll be pleased to hear that rumors that HBO was thinking of rescinding the show's Season 2 order are apparently not true. I hear the new season is moving full steam ahead.

Dude, Everwood is so great ...

Question: Dude, Everwood is so great right now, why on earth is it not returning until March? What's going to replace it on Thursdays? Repeats? This sucks. Answer: No, it'll be replaced by something far more sinister: A second cycle of Beauty and the Geek! On the bright side, this'll allow WB to air Everwood rerun-free through the end of the season. All told, I think this is a win-win for us, with the exception of the second cycle of Beauty and the Geek. No one needed to see that.

Question: What's all this I'm hearing about a possible Alias spin-off? Answer: It's much ado about nothing, Luis. While it's true that executive producer Jeff Pinkner has discussed with J.J. Abrams the possibility of a Sark/Peyton/Sloane-centered offshoot — "It's the triumvirate of evil," he told TV Guide magazine — the odds of Alias living on in another form are practically nil.
