22 Episodes 2011 - 2012
In the inaugural season of this comedy created by Emmy-nominated producer Emily Kapnek ("As Told by Ginger"), architect George Altman (Jeremy Sisto) moves from New York City to the fictional suburb of Chatswin to give his daughter (Jane Levy) a better life, but the transplants struggle to adjust to the peculiarities of their new environment, which includes school cliques, country-club etiquette and shopping trips to the mall. Feeling like a fish out of water, Tessa fortunately finds other outcasts in classmate Malik (Maestro Harrell) at the school paper and neighbor Lisa (Allie Grant), though the latter isn't so thrilled when her new friend has a thing for her BMOC brother, Ryan (Parker Young). Meanwhile, Tessa forges a rivalry with "mean girl" Dalia Royce (Carly Chaikin), whose mother, Dallas (Cheryl Hines), tries to show Tessa how much better her new life is going to be. As for George, he tries to acclimate with help from his friend Noah (Alan Tudyk), a dentist who moved out of the city years ago, but it doesn't take long to learn that—as a single dad—he's just the fresh meat that the man-hungry ladies of Chatswin have been waiting for. The cast also includes Ana Gasteyer and Chris Parnell as Lisa and Ryan's parents, and Rex Lee as a guidance counselor at school.
