Season 2 of the snarky yet sweet family comedy begins with Tessa (Jane Levy) returning to the suburbs after a summer in New York City, where she developed a new interest: her deadbeat mom. George (Jeremy Sisto) obviously has mixed feelings about this. At Chatswin's annual Fall Follies, Tessa learns she has inherited her mother's talent for singing and playing guitar, and at Thanksgiving she ditches dinner in the 'burbs for the chance to finally meet this mystery woman. Meanwhile, George asks Dallas (Cheryl Hines) out on their first date, unaware she has invited her life coach along for support. At the same time, Dallas is in a bitter feud with George's best bud Noah (Alan Tudyk ) over nanny Carmen (Bunnie Rivera). And Dalia (Carly Chaikin) finds a new best friend in her father's fiancée, but has a hard time with their elopement. Life in the Shay household finds Lisa (Allie Grant) threatening to tell Ryan (Parker Young) he's adopted if her parents don't do her bidding. It doesn't take long, though, for Sheila (Ana Gasteyer ) to make her realize that it's in everyone's best interest to keep the secret. Feeling guilty for not coming clean, Lisa helps Ryan pursue a romance with Tessa, while her own relationship with Malik (Maestro Harrell) goes through some changes after an embarrassing shower incident. Season 2 also sees George forming an all-guy band fronted by Sheila; and the return of Yoni the Dog Whisperer (Wilmer Valderrama).
