She later re-enters the office for unknown reasons, and a security camera records someone grabbing her and dragging her to the men's toilets. The attack happens on Friday, but the guards do not notice the recording until the following Monday. Her remains are discovered a few hours later. The murder is identical to the one from 1987. The police collect evidence against the businessman, and they deduce that both victims had discovered something important about his finances and his white-collar crimes. The businessman is murdered by a disgruntled client. The female lawyer apparently loyal to him for decades reluctantly confesses that she was aware that her boss was a murderer, but clams that she was legally required to keep his secrets due to attorney-client privilege. Frank suffers minor burns and smoke inhalation, but his two younger daughters Kedzie and Faye were burned to death in their shared bedroom. Frank's college-aged eldest daughter Emily was working elsewhere at the time of the fire, and there were no other residents in their house. A local pyromaniac with a history of sexually harassing Kedzie is arrested, and he is coerced into confessing by Elliot. However the coerced confession is considered useless, and there are no forensic evidence against him. Deputy Fire Marshal Kurek determines that the fire was caused by arson, and determines that all forensic evidence points to Frank himself as the main suspect. Frank is arrested and everyone turns against him, including his surviving daughter. The new assistant district attorney Jo Marlowe has her doubts about the evidence and asks a freelance fire investigator, Dr. Iggy Drexel, to look into the case for her. Drexel finds several faults in Kurek's initial report, but does not have enough evidence to testify in court. Marlowe and Drexel recreate the conditions of the fire in an abandoned house with an identical design to that of Frank Marshall. They find enough evidence that the fire started in the girls' bedroom due to a malfunctioning electrical device. Kurek destroys his own credibility by failing to recognize that no accelerant was present in the second fire, revealing his poor understanding of a number of scientific facts concerning fires, and admitting that he never even considered the possibility of an accidental fire. Frank is acquitted.
