They also learn that the partner killed her mother and that someone else was convicted of the crime so they try to get him released but they need the man to say he didn't do it but he's already in the final stages.

They eventually learn that the mother of the girl who had the key, is also a drinker and may have been the one who provided them with the alcohol that led to the girl's death. Novak tries to have her charged but has no evidence.
