Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), a macho marketing executive at a sporting-goods store, decides to spend less time traveling for work and more time at home with his wife (Nancy Travis) and three daughters in the first season of this sitcom. He becomes more involved in his daughters' lives, and even tries to help eldest daughter, Kristin (Alexandra Krosney), with her young son, but he winds up getting the tyke kicked out of day care. Some of his other missteps include encouraging teenage Mandy (Molly Ephraim) to get a job delivering pizzas at night, which his wife worries is unsafe; and giving tomboy Eve (Kaitlyn Dever) some soccer advice, which leads to her injuring a boy on whom she has a crush.
