Jamie is transferred within the building to become the 29's intelligence officer, whim requires keeping absolute secrets even from other cops and loved-ones, which angers Eddie to whom captain McNichols promised in hospital that she and Jamie stay in the same station. Jamie considers transferring instead to a precinct in close proximity to the 29 so that he can stay reasonably close to Eddie, who reconsiders. Frank's refusal to publicly endorse a candidate -read: Erin- for the Manhattan District Attorney race infuriates her, Garrett and Henry, till Erin realizes that allows her constructive criticism of the NYPD during her campaign, needed to have any chance of winning. Investigating a pool of blood in a hotel room leads Danny and Baez to well-known sleep doctor and author Knight, who secretly sees escorts outside of his marriage. His daughter Audrey is found to be responsible, being the escort's college friend.

Jamie convinces Erin to let regular suspect go Sheree Shea, hoping of catching a bigger crook, leading him and deputized Anthony on a goose chase in pursuit of a man running guns in the neighborhood, but it's more complex. Danny and Baez's psychic friend Maggie Gibson was stabbed, which jeopardized her gift, so alas she cannot feel her late daughter's presence and bonds with Baez while interacting with the latter's adopted daughter. Badillo and Eddie find her car vandalized by his ex-girlfriend, whom he abruptly stopped seeing when she suggested they move in together. Frank grapples with how to honor Bill Connors, his recently deceased predecessor as NYPD Commissioner, who is praised by his widow and Gormley for being a stand-up cop, but his history of taking bribes and siphoning money must by weighed against that, the dignity of the office and his charity work after retirement.

When a mob of protester accosts Henry while hes out with some friends, Frank learns they were sent by a man who has issues with a unit Henry created when he was commissioner. Frank meets with the man who offers to stop his protest if Frank disbands the unit which he won't do, so he tries to find another way to stop the harassment. An informant tells Danny a gang leader wants him to kill someone or he will kill the informant's brother, Danny tells him he has to get proof which is dangerous. Eddie's captain goes into the field and brings Eddie with her. They arrive at a crime scene and Eddie decides to investigate on her own. When the investigating defective informs the captain what Eddie did, she tells Eddie to back off but When she doesn't she disciplines her. Learning That her attacker got info on a criminal Erin's been trying to prosecute in exchange for release, Baker is furious. But Erin says this is necessary. So Baker decides to see if she can something on the criminal so the attacker's not needed.

After Danny and Baez get 'no witness talking' investigating the clear daylight murder of a shopkeeper's wife, Jamie brings a crucial lead thanks to his new position: young Elijah Martin, who confesses, saying it was part of a gang initiation he dared not refuse. Jamie wishes to have him lead them to his boss, while Danny wants to close the case to get justice for the murder victim's husband, with whose widower plight he identifies. Jamie must go over indignant Danny's head to pursue the gang leader, leading to a Reagan vs. Reagan conflict that only strains further, despite Jamie finding a way to set things right after Elijah proves manipulated, as the victim's husband assaults Elijah, hence is arrested. Erin and Anthony work with Joe Hill, whose log-prepared court case goes south due to ADA Robert Davis missing court, fed drunk by a bar siren. After they discover Davis corruptly let gang defendants slide several times, Erin fires him and he hangs himself. Frank declines an invitation to speak at a policing forum at a college criminology faculty that had shunned him before, but later grows conflicted after learning Henry and Sid had both accepted an offer to attend in his place, only to find it all a ploy.

Jamie insists to give his junior partner Zach Christodoulopoulos, who failed as in interrogator, a crucial part in the control post while Jamie goes undercover in a high-tech car smuggling ring as thief, where Chris's encouraged sense of initiative save his uncovered sergeant's life. Meanwhile, Frank is agitated when his chief of transit backs, without consultation, the mayor's imposed solo patrol program that causes more officer injuries on the job, and even covers up victims to the media, but when a cop victim gets press support the mayor back-stabs them. Badillo and Eddie respond to a shop robbery call, where an apparent officer, no uniform but badge and gun, subdued the thief without calling it, which raises suspicion in Eddie's mind, so she informs Danny. He reluctantly lets them assist putting a stop to this police impersonator, who turns out a corporate security agent, retired from NYPD after a conflict with his abusive boss. Erin hires an image consultant to help with her D.A. campaign, though is uneasy about putting up a front; rather, wishing to be elected based on her experience rather than her image, but Anthony insists you can't do the job without appealing to the mostly superficial electorate.

Jamie attempts to help a recently released felon, whom he had arrested over-enthusiastically as a rookie cop, reintegrate back into society, but things changed so much, he stages a robbery just to return to prison, where he really is somebody. Danny and Baez investigate the death of a well-known senior park chess player. His long-estranged, disinherited adult son's guilt over his refusal to read the letters his father wrote him lead him to investigate himself, but Danny finds out the old man committed suicide by overdosing on drugs after changing back his will. Erin is asked An influential pastor suggests electoral support if Erin "looks into" his nephew's arrest in exchange for an endorsement, but after Anthony finds Crawford takes the case on the same terms, the rivals work together on the case, discovering the pastor's own business dealings necessitate an investigation. Gormley is asked by Danny to ask Frank to help get full medical benefits for fellow 54th squad detective Laura Acosta, who was critically injured on the job after taking Danny's shift shortly after Linda's death. Danny claims the catalysts are his guilt over her circumstances as well as her helping him through tough times, though Frank duly sense a spark between Danny and Laura, Danny next has a dinner date with Laura after the Reagan Sunday dinner.

Jamie comes across a former officer caught stealing from construction sites where the foreman had left undocumented immigrants in a bind. The man goes to confront the foreman while on a wire, but Jamie's act of helping the former officer get away results in a three-day suspension. Danny reunites with childhood friend and former criminal Mickey Patrick, to help him finding his missing fiancee, only to discover that the woman is not who Mickey thought she was. Meanwhile, Anthony surprises Erin with one last stakeout before her run for district attorney. A woman confesses to murdering her husband in front of Frank, but it was in self-defense and the man had chronically abused her. The captain and officers that had responded to her calls let him slide due to his working for them as an informant, but Frank terminates the three due to their inaction in helping the woman.

Joe breaks FBI protocol while working on a joint task force, injuring a drug suspect, over-eagerly failing to prevent the evidence being flushed; Frank temporarily transfers him to a desk job, and that combined with lingering grief over never getting to know his father weighs heavily on Joe's mind. Danny and Baez race against the clock to catch a ritualistic serial killer targeting well-groomed young women across the city, whom he stages with a standard rosary and leaves Biblical notes. Phychiatrist Dr. Walker, who helps them as profiler, proves deeply involved with manic episodes. In psych observation ward, he admits to two murders and hints that more bodies will drop. Badillo and Eddie respond to a stabbing death where a young female office employee admits to killing her boss, reputed a sexual predator, but pleads self-defense. Eddie suggests Erin's ex-husband Jack to represent the woman, leading to tension with Erin, who looses the case. Joe and Frank make up later watching old family movies of the elder Joe.

Jamie and his boss present a plan to Frank for Jamie to go undercover to bust a child trafficking ring, but Frank prefers the experienced Vice team to capture the ringleader, despite their failing since a long time. Jamie sees Frank as overprotective father, leading to a disagreement between them. Danny partners with Texas Ranger Waylon Gates again to bring infamous drug cartel boss Diego Rodriguez to arraignment, who threatens to harm Jack and Nicky, leading Danny to alert Frank, who can only arrange protective custody for their out-of-town kin. Erin takes on the highly contentious sexual assault case against a basketball star, whose agent is revealed to be complicit in covering up the assaults. Eddie partners with officer Cora Felton, whom Eddie once reported for hiding her pregnancy, when a mother scolds Eddie having promised to find her son's killer.

Danny and Baez investigate a mugging. The victim is UN conscious So he cant tell them anything. So they investigate and get a suspect with a past criminal history. The man assumes they targeted him because he's black. When the victim awakes he gives then startling info. Jaime and Eddie Go to her friend's restaurant. Later Gormley informs Jaime the restaurant is suspected of being a drug op. Jaime doesn't think Eddie's friend is involved but Gormley tells him he needs to keep it a secret from Eddie and he has to work the case. When he acts odd Eddie suspect something. Erin is being used by the sister of a coworker who killed himself When Erin discovered his duplicity. Anthony calls Jack to help her and they suggest different plans which she doesn't like. Frank learns that a police officer posted Jude photos online. He wants to terminate her but his staff tells him he's being hasty. So he talks to the officer and gets her take.

Smoke & Mirrors

At a retirement party with an open bar for a longtime NYPD member, Gormley and Baker get into an argument with a sergeant who had spilled drinks bumping into Gormley, attempted to sucker punch Gormley, Baker punched him out, leading to a formal complaint. Though he declares he will stay out of the departmental investigation (upsetting his 'Dream Team'), Frank persuades the sergeant not to press charges due to his drunken behavior at the party. Jamie and Danny team up to investigate a series of car-jackings involving Danny's confidential informant Buggs, but their working relationship is strained when Buggs's brother Marcus, who committed the car-jackings, is murdered by his crime partner Reggie. Eddie and Badillo encounter a woman who says she is being stalked everywhere by a man she recently met on a dating app, with little evidence to back her up. Based on Badillo's intuition about the situation, Eddie discovers evidence to prove her partner right. A reporter asks DA Crawford about reports of her husband's infidelity during a press conference; Erin tries to help by investigating the source, only for Crawford to snap at her, asking her to stay out of her personal life.

Jamie must demand to team up with the FDNY to find the arsonist responsible for a massive fire at an NYPD evidence storage facility, which the police lab finds arson, probably an inside job, so he questions staff, including a suspended man and one who missed out on promotion. The massive loss of evidence leaves Erin and Anthony scrambling to bring criminals to justice and Danny and Baez back to square one trying to convict drug cartel lord Diego Rodriguez, whom they recently arrested (episode "Close to Home"). Anthony makes Erin allow him to personally investigate the murder of his old friend in an armed robbery, likely to strike again, instead of salvaging compromised cases. At an anti-cop protest, a woman shoves Eddie twice forcing her to arrest, but fakes serious arm-injury despite Eddie barely using force. She asks Frank to put her on modified assignment to show that Frank doesn't play favoritism, despite all parties agreeing that the arrest was by the book. Still unsatisfied, the protester files a civil suit, forcing Frank to distance himself from the CCRB investigation. Henry privately proves the protester has no case by photographing her taking off her neck brace, leading to the charges being dropped.

Frank suspects his longtime friend, retired officer Lenny Ross, is hiding his true reason for returning to the city. He eventually discovers Lenny has a terminal illness. Anthony must enter the inner workings of an underground crime ring when his chaotic, dodgy cousin Joey begs him for a favor. Danny and Baez investigate when Baez and her daughter are targeted by a criminal Baez once put away. Baez nearly goes vigilante on the perp, but Danny successfully talks her down. Eddie gives her partner Badillo relationship advice when his ex-girlfriend is physically attacked.
