They settle on the captain's inherited smaller apartment, with Eddie working nights at the 29th precinct. Frank's ex partner Lenny Ross's daughter Carrie is arrested and pulls his grace card, falsely using DNA from her half-sister, Lenny's actual biological daughter. After Lenny admits the "perfect" Reagans made him uncomfortable with bringing up children, Frank invites Lenny to Sunday dinner's first on Henry's suggestion, stirring contention until Jamie deduces such demonstrative intention. Medium Maggie who previously helped Danny and Baez proposes a year-old homicide; more victims are found and she prevents another murder, but the killer kidnaps Maggie and threatens to blow her up. Danny saves Maggie and they commiserate over murdered kin. Erin faces off against an attorney from her past, who defends a wealthy man accused of repeatedly assaulting his girlfriend, who testifies she was never abused but is later stabbed.

As previous victims were young male cabbies, Jamie is tagged to participate in a decoy operation to take down a predator who is targeting cab drivers. Investigating a restaurant owners half-erroneous murder by mob baron Gino Grazioso's hitman Paulie DeMarco, Danny and Baez work recruit retired mobster Vincent Rella to assist in their investigation, but he is reluctant to compromise his witness protection and the middle man has mixed feelings.

Frank's esteemed late female philanthropist friend's son Matt Kaye, who was written out of the fat inheritance, threatens to expose at her memorial, with Frank as key speaker, the kind of person she really was. Danny drags a reluctant Baez into a case involving a suspicious Chinese immigrant couple who are grieving at the morgue. Due to their immense distaste for cops, associated with the brutal PRC regime they fled to the United State, they disowned their son, officer Andy Chen, for joining NYPD, but now blame themselves for the death of their daughter, not having informed the police after she married an abusive man. Chen need being restrained by Danny when apprehending the violent husband, while the detectives discover that the woman is alive and held captive. Eddie's unreasonable boss, Sergeant McNichols, berates Eddie as in-law of the Reagan family after taking some initiatives while investigating a murder at a community pool and publicly demands being formally acknowledged herself in charge of a crime scene despite Eddie doing her job. Nicky announces during the family dinner that she is heading to San Francisco for a job interview.

Frank takes one of Jamie's cases to heart: the bullet 'suicide' of retired FBI Agent Wilson Ortega's terminally ill wife, also ex-cop. Frank, a longtime friend of Wilson's, speculates that Wilson may have ended his wife's life per her request, which he confessed to enable a Catholic funeral. Frank discusses with Jamie whether to treat Mary's illness and death as a presumed crime. Erin having longed for an impossible challenge, Anthony helps her solve a string of unsolved robberies of shop owners, who all refuse as undocumented immigrants to appear in court, ultimately forcing Anthony to go undercover as a shop owner himself. Danny reunites with former lieutenant detective Mike Gee, an old friend, who assists Danny in a case where a young woman accuses of rape a wealthy, nerdy elder man only remembers drinking with her young woman, and nothing after. Danny suspects the man's wife, who was in the midst of a nasty divorce and custody battle for two children, paid the 'victim' to file a false claim.

Eddie goes undercover to help Erin and Anthony investigate a mysterious cult, whose charismatic leader Daniel Shapiro is believed responsible for the recent disappearance of a young woman. During Sunday dinner, Nicky reveals she's hired for a charitable job she in San Francisco, hence moving.

Danny and Baez investigate a man who robs the elderly, one of whose victims later dies from an accidental fall, ultimately tricking him into confessing to lesser assault charges while identifying photos of people he's targeted, including the actual death he ignores. Erin's ex Jack Boyle makes her face her wrongdoings by bringing her Darnell Johnson's murder case, claiming new evidence indicates she put him away five years ago falsely convicted, which hostile Anthony helps prove.

Jamie is suspicious that Troy may have planted a vial so he could search the perp's vehicle, leading to another argument with Eddie. Jamie must inform IA but gives Troy an ultimatum to put in his papers to keep his pension and keep Eddie from being labeled as a rat. Frank is caught in a crossfire while the police and the fire departments battle it out after FDNY commissioner Stan Rourke provokes a cop following a misunderstanding. Erin ponders a life-challenging offer by Mayor-elect Peter Chase, to endorse her for the district attorney's office, but an campaign expert and Anthony doubt the wisdom of dropping her job, so she only tells Chase she is still considering it.

Working on a nanny accused of abuse, Erin fires psychiatric consultant Dr. Alice Dornan, disagreeing with her diagnosis and punishment suggestion, but Anthony points out the Mayor-elect endorsing her for the D.A.'s office and Nicky moving to San Francisco may be clouding her judgment.

Despite Erin telling him to drop it, Anthony tails a habitual thief that was released with no bond, ultimately catching his perp at materializing personal risk.

Eddie offers to help Jamie pay off his student loans from a trust fund left by her father, but Jamie is concerned that the money may be dirty. Eddie picks yet another fight with Jamie due to what she misconstrues as Jamie abusing her jailed pa Armin. Erin tries to put away Mark Siriani with a violent past after judge Cheryl Harvey, ex-ADA, shockingly allows him to walk on a drug charge; the judge proves a childhood friend of the defendant, whose cohort ambushes her at her house only to get shot.

A desperate Luis Delgado tells Danny and Baez that the only way he'll testify against his former cartel is if they protect his sons. After a cartel member abducts one of the boys, the FBI investigator working with them urges the detectives to lie as to make Delgado to testify in court, but Danny and Baez resolve to rescue the boy in time by goading the cartel member to reveal where they're keeping Delgado's son by bringing his pregnant wife in on charges of her own. Frank takes heat when Rosemary Martin, blames him for her husband's recent suicide while on the job, openly claiming the NYPD don't have each others' backs as much as it appears; an investigation reveals that her husband was being blackmailed for having an affair. Frank decides to keep this information from Rosemary, earning more ire, and discreetly arranges for her to speak to the officers in her husband's precinct. When Eddie has a gut feeling about a murder, she and Erin band together to solve the case, but Erin earns Eddie's ire by telling her as usually to Danny she needs concrete evidence, not just a gut feeling.

Danny thinks he finally has a murderer but when the M.E.'s report doesn't support a homicide, Danny thinks the criminal got to the M.E. and tries to prove it. Erin's learns a criminal who's a pathological liar has info that can help her convict someone she's been after. But Anthony doesn't trust him. Jamie and eddies's neighbor claims her valuables are missing but she's beginning to show signs of dementia so they don't know if she's credible.

Eddie and Jamie team up to determine who masterminded an electronics store robbery, after learning it was carried out by students who are home because of a teachers strike, finding the human link. Danny and Baez must track down a dealer of dangerous weight loss drugs after two young models overdose. Archbishop Kearns asks Frank to look into an allegation of inappropriate behavior between a priest and an 11-year-old altar boy, who turn out actually being the priest's secret son after an affair seduced by the boy's mother who oversees his home. Kearns sighs that the priest must be transferred to another parish, refusing to stop being a part of his son's life. Erin's investigation into an arson is compromised as the assigned rookie ADA inadvertently leaks details to the ambushing press .
