Angel Mine created a storm of controversy in New Zealand when it was released in 1978 because a small number of people in moral watchdog groups considered it to be pornographic. The story focuses on a suburban couple who cannot distinguish between what is real and what is fantasy in their lives, lives that are completely saturated with advertising of one sort or another. This film marks the directorial debut for David Blyth, who was 22 at the time of its release.
