Modern Family Cast: Then and Now

How long has Modern Family been around? Long enough to make you feel old. The Emmy-winning ABC ensemble sitcom is scheduled to air the final episode of its 1th -- and final -- season on April 8.

Among other things, the finale will mark the final work by Beatrice, the French bulldog that played Stella, and that recently died.

While we await the series finale, let's take a look at how the actors who've played the intertwined members of the Dunphy, Pritchett and Pritchett-Tucker clans have changed over the years. Spoiler alert: They've all changed a lot, especially the children -- or, former children in the cases of Nolan Gould, Ariel Winter and Rico Rodriquez. And, yes, we pay tribute to Beatrice, too.

Hyland was 18 when she started playing image-obsessed, boy-crazy Haley Dunphy.

The Modern Family actress has gone on to roles in Veronica Mars and The Wedding Year. As of 2019, she was engaged to former Bachelorette contestant, Wells Adams.

Winter was only 11 when she began her role as Alex Dunphy on the series.

Outside of Modern Family, Winter has appeared on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and voiced Sofia in the animated series, Sofia the First.

Rodriguez has been playing pint-sized romantic Manny Delgado since he was 11.

The actor's voice has been heard in the animated series, The Lion Guard.

Gould has played the Dunphys' youngest child, Luke, since the show's inception. He was about a month shy of 11 when the pilot first aired.

Gould appeared in Logic's music video for "1-800-273-8255," and is slated to appear alongside The Act's Joey King in a digital project, Camp.

Anderson-Emmons was 2 when she started playing Lily Tucker-Pritchett in Season 3 on the ABC series.

Outside of Modern Family, the child star has appeared as a judge on Beat Bobby Flay.

Brigitte was the first animal actor to portray Stella, Jay's beloved dog, and Gloria's canine nemesis. The French bulldog made its debut in the show's second season.

The role of Stella was recast after Season 3. Since leaving Modern Family, Brigitte has starred as Princess Pickles on the Nick Jr. series, Mutt & Stuff.

The French bulldog took over the role of Stella Pritchett in Season 3.

The sweet pooch passed away shortly after Modern Family wrapped filming on its 11th -- and final -- season.

Ewing has played Dylan Marshall, the on-again, off-again love interest of Haley Dunphy, since the show's first episode.

Ewing was upgraded to series regular status in Season 11. In a momentous Season 10 storyline, his character wed -- and welcomed twins with -- Sarah Hyland's Haley.

Vergara starred in Spanish-language telenovelas, and guest-starred in the ABC series Men in Trees and Dirty Sexy Money before joining the cast of Modern Family in 2009.

Vergara has been married to True Blood alum Joe Manganiello since 2015, and starred in the movies Hot Pursuit, Chef, and Bottom of the 9th. She was also the voice of "Flamenca" in The Emoji Movie.

Back in 2009, Bowen was one of the best-known faces of the Modern Family cast. Prior to playing Claire Dunphy, she was a series regular on Ed and Boston Legal, and had a recurring role on Weeds.

Bowen has won two Primetime Emmys for Modern Family. Besides playing a harried mom of three, Bowen has lent her voice to the animated series DuckTales and Tangled: The Series. Her upcoming projects include: Raised by Wolves and Hubie Halloween.

Maguire joined the series in Season 7 as Jay and Gloria Pritchett's son, Joe.

The child actor has also appeared in the TNT series, The Last Ship. He will appear in the upcoming project, The Virgin of Highland Park.

Prior to being cast as goofy dad Phil Dunphy, Burrell starred on a pair of short-lived sitcoms, Back to You and Out of Practice.

Burrell, a two-time Primetime Emmy-winner for Modern Family, can be heard in the Fox animated series, Duncanville.

On Modern Family, Stonestreet plays the boisterous, clown-performing and football-coaching Cameron Tucker.

A Primetime Emmy-winner for Modern Family, Stonestreet can be heard in the animated series, You're Not a Monster. He's previously lent his voice to the character Duke in the Secret Life of Pets films.

The Married... with Children vet plays patriarch Jay Pritchett on the ABC series.

O'Neill was the voice of Mr. Litwak in the animated movie Ralph Breaks the Internet. He is slated to appear in the upcoming film, The Last Shift.

Ferguson was a seasoned Broadway star before he was cast as A-type attorney Mitchell Pritchett on Modern Family.

The flame-haired actor appeared in Taylor Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" music video.

During Modern Family's Seasons 5-7, DeVine, one of the co-creators and stars of Comedy Central's Workaholics, appeared as Joe Pritchett's nanny (and Haley's kinda-sorta love interest), Andy Bailey.

Since Modern Family, DeVine's career has skyrocketed. He appeared in the first two Pitch Perfect movies, and was the romantic lead in Isn't It Romantic, opposite Rebel Wilson. He is currently a star on the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones. His upcoming projects include: Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia; a TV series called The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers; and, Magic Camp.

Comedy vet Willard (Best in Show, Anchorman, Waiting for Guffman) first appeared as Phil Dunphy's dad, Frank, in Season 1.

Willard's Phil Dunphy passed away in the Season 11 episode, "Legacy." Willard died in May 2020 at 86 years old. His last project was the 2020 Netflix comedy, Space Force.

The former Cheers star played Claire and Mitchell's high-strung mother, Dede Pritchett, starting in Season 1.

Long's Modern Family character was killed off in Season 10. Viewers were told Dede died in her sleep.
