It's the end of an era

A lot has changed for the Dunphys and Pritchetts since their extended family was first introduced in Modern Family's 2009 debut, but now, as the stars get to work on the final season, they're going back to their roots with a group photo that's sure to make fans' hearts swell with nostalgia.

On Wednesday, cast members Ed O'Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons all gathered for a group photo that mirrors the first picture the cast took together.

"Ten years ago we took the first cast photo outside our first Modern Family table read. Today, the ending begins," co-creator Steve Levitan wrote to caption the side-by-side images.

So much has changed -- from the height of the kids to the size of the family itself (Anderson-Emmons joined the show in Season 3). And this isn't even everyone! Not pictured in this shot are the kids playing Joe, Dylan, and, of course, those brand new twins, who officially make Modern Family a three-generational affair in the show's final stretch.

Cast members, including Ferguson and Vergara, also shared the image on their social media accounts.

Modern Family, which has earned 22 Emmys and a total of 75 nominations (and counting) for its cast and creatives throughout its run, was renewed for Season 11, which will be its final season, even after Levitan indicated he and co-creator Christopher Lloyd wanted to end with Season 10.

Modern Family's final season will premiere on ABC on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 9/8c.
