T.R. Knight "Definitely Happy" He's Openly Gay

Although T.R. Knight seemed comfortable and confident when he publicly revealed that he was gay last October, the Grey's Anatomy star in fact didn't receive unanimous support for his brave decision. According to an interview in the June 19 issue of The Advocate, while his friends were supportive, others advised him against coming out so soon after the on-set kerfuffle involving Isaiah Washington, saying, "Don't do it. Don't do it now." But Knight was undeterred. "I could have retreated," he says, "but I'm definitely happy I made the decision."  Reporting by Raven Snook

Star Trek: The Search for Scotty (Or at Least His Ashes)

The remains of Star Trek cast member James Doohan, which were ceremoniously blasted into space on April 29, have gone missing, the exact whereabouts of their landing place unknown. A spokesperson for Space Services Inc., the Houston-based company that gave Doohan his fitting send-off, tells Reuters that the vessel parachuted down into a mountainous area of Phoenix, from which it has not been retrieved. Amazingly, no red shirts in the search party have perished yet in the effort.

Abundance of Bad Girls May Cut Paris' Jail Stint in Half

Paris Hilton's 45-day jail sentence, if served at all, could be dramatically shortened due in part to overcrowding in the Los Angeles County penal system. "Our jail is bursting at the seams," to the point that some women inmates have been released after serving but 10 percent of their sentence, a sheriff-department spokesperson tells the Associated Press. Factoring in the current jail population, Paris might serve 21 to 23 days — or less. Says the spokesman, "It's a complicated formula that the state sets down."

NBC Keeps Lights On, But Crosses Jordan Off List

As scooped by the Ausiello Report Thursday afternoon, NBC has redeemed itself for The Real Wedding Crashers by scheduling a second season of Friday Night Lights  this coming on the heels of an early pickup for Medium. Now, as next week's upfronts draw even closer, the bad news is trickling in. Despite recent chatter that Crossing Jordan might cheat the grim reaper, the New York Times is reporting that the six-year-old drama has booked a date with the coroner. The same article has Scrubs checking out, though the sitcom could possibly find a reprieve at the hands of ABC.

Entourage Won't Chill for Long, and Other HBO News

HBO's Entourage will launch its fourth season on June 17  that is, all of two weeks after the current one ends. There, Vince, Eric et al will anchor a Sunday lineup featuring the new shows John from Cincinnati (from Deadwood's David Milch) and Flight of the Conchords (two New Zealand musicians try to make it in NYC). HBO has also announced a June 11 Season 2 premiere for Big Love, which will now call Monday night home.

Short Cuts: NBC's Wedding Crashes, and More

NBC has pulled The Real Wedding Crashers from its Monday lineup for at least the foreseeable future.... Supermodel-actress-journo Veronica Webb (no relation, I don't think) has joined the new Bravo series Tim Gunn's Guide to Style.... The Al-Aqsa TV station run by the Hamas terror group has pulled the plug on its hate-preaching version of Mickey Mouse, calling it "a mistaken approach" to touting Islamic radicalism, the New York Daily News reports.... Dreamgirls topped the DVD sales chart last week, while Night at the Museum remained the No. 1 rental.

The Terminator: It'll Be Back  As a New Trilogy

The Halcyon Co., a privately financed shingle, has ponied up tens of millions of dollars for franchise rights to the Terminator film series, Reuters reports. The plan is to immediately commence preproduction on Terminator 4 with an eye on an early-2009 release, and to serve as the first entry in what will be a new trilogy. Though an existing script for No. 4 was part of the deal, no talent or distributor is yet on board.

Eddie Murphy is set to star in a family-oriented big-screen adaptation of TV's Fantasy Island, filling (much to SAG's consternation, I always imagine) multiple roles.... Also per the Hollywood Reporter, Tim Roth is in talks to play Emil Blonsky/The Abomination to Edward Norton's Incredible Hulk.... Matthew Perry and Hilary Swank star in the indie comedy Laws of Motion, playing a harried husband and his all-too-perfect neighbor.... Luke Wilson will star in Henry Poole Is Here, a dramedy about a man who learns he has only six weeks to live.

On Stage: London Blooms with Spring Fever and More

Having graced two of the blockbusteriest trilogies of all time, Orlando Bloom is out to prove his acting chops by making his West End debut in a revival of the 1969 drama Celebration, says Variety, to bow as early as July.... The epic staging of Lord of the Rings  a flop in Toronto last year  inexplicably begins previews in London on May 19, says Playbill.com. Hey, if things don't work out for Bloom's other project.... Per London's Daily Mail, ITV hopes to cast a staging of Saturday Night Fever via a reality series.... Jerry "The Beav" Mathers is the patriarch in Broadway's Hairspray starting June 5. American Idol Exec: Spin-off Is "a No-Brainer"

Egads, might Sanjaya and his sis have a friend who's a drummer? As first reported by TVGuide.com, Ryan Seacrest announced on Wednesday's American Idol results show the launch of a spin-off of sorts. Tentatively titled The Search for the Next Great American Band, the competition will invite group acts versus solos, and possibly air as soon as the fall (though only one night a week, say early reports). The decision to finally "band" together on this obvious extension of the Idol format "was a no-brainer," Cecile Frot-Coutaz (who is exec-producing with Idol cohorts Ken Warwick, Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe) tells Variety. "[We] asked ourselves why we hadn't thought of it before."Me, I think this could be an awesome opportunity for Antonella, Alaina and Haley to hook up and do something special. Court TV Castoff to "Grace" The View?

ABC's The View: it's not just a talk show, but a veritable magnet for headline makers. No sooner had Nancy Grace announced (to her Court TV bosses' surprise, it is said) that she would be leaving the cabler to focus on her CNN Headline News program, the New York Daily News hears that the brassy blonde is angling to fill Rosie's seat on The View. My only question: how is it that Paris' name has yet to enter the mix?

Paris Keeping Dates with Dave, Regis; Governator Vows No Special Treatment

Though she would appear to be bound for the clink, Paris Hilton (in tandem with reality sidekick Nicole Richie) thus far is still on the books to take their Simple Life-pimping tour to Letterman (on June 6) and Regis & Kelly (the morning after). Still, the New York Daily News hears, insiders at each talker won't be surprised if the stop-bys were scrapped, should justice actually be served.Speaking of that fickle lady (justice, not Paris), a spokesperson for Governor Schwarzenegger  who reportedly has been beseeched to intervene on this country-crippling case and pardon the celebunot  tells the News that Grandpa W. Barron Hilton's campaign contributions over the years (totaling some $59,600) will not factor into any potential action. Besides, the flack notes, "There are legal remedies for [Paris] to pursue before the governor would get involved." Exec Shares "Frustration" over Waning CBS News

Newly appointed CBS News senior vice president Paul Friedman has been put in charge of, among other things, bolstering Katie Couric's struggling Evening News-cast. Speaking to the latest, far-from-greatest ratings, Friedman tells the Hollywood Reporter, "Obviously it's not the best news.... But we know we're on the right track now," having recently amped up the program's hard-news content. "Our frustration is that the program is so much better [than when Couric first seized the reins], and we just need people to notice that. We alienated, clearly, a significant part of our audience, [and] we've got to get them to check in again."

Ty Pennington Charged with Two Misdemeanor DUIs

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition frontman Ty Pennington on Wednesday was charged with two misdemeanor DUI counts stemming from his Saturday-morning arrest in Los Angeles. Pennington, says TMZ.com, reportedly had a 0.14 blood alcohol level when he was pulled over, and the legal limit in California is 0.08. Tom Selleck Joins Vegas... as James Caan Returns?

As buzzed about a month ago, NBC has signed Emmy winner Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) to join the cast of NBC's Las Vegas this fall, playing "a charismatic, self-made billionaire who is surrounded by an air of mystery when he becomes the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino."In making the announcement, NBC also revealed that  as some form of baton-passing, I presume  James Caan will reprise his role of Ed Deline in the Season 5 premiere. It was announced earlier this year that Caan would be leaving Las Vegas after its fourth-season finale, but just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. (Little Pacino/Godfather/Sonny Corleone reference for ya there.)

Adrian Pasdar: Heroes' Numbers Are Still Super

Asked to comment on Heroes' recent  if not utterly incongruous and undeserved  slip in total viewers, Adrian Pasdar told TVGuide.com during a Wednesday conference call that when it comes down to the coveted 18-to-49 demo, "We're still bringing home the bacon, and that's our responsibility." Likening each Monday night to a film opening, he says, "We're doing $100 million worth of business every time," drawing 11 million to (at the season's highest point) 16 million viewers. That said, he maintains, "It's the demographic that holds true. If we had started to slip [in that measure], there'd be some concern, but we're still winning the 18-to-49. The demographics have held tight the entire time." Harry Potter Poster "Busted" for Enhancing Hermione

The image of a poster for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix posted on the IMAX website has been taken down in the wake of criticism that it was retouched to make Emma Watson's 15-year-old alter ego a wee more... curvy. According to The-Leaky-Cauldron.org, Warner Bros. has since issued a statement explaining that the poster (seen here at the London Daily Mail website) was unapproved yet "unfortunately... was accidentally posted on the IMAX website." Sounds like someone in the film's publicity department is a bit hung up on Lindsay Lohan's famous (and to this day "spellbinding") Saturday Night Live take on the character.

Rival Hot to Pick Up L&Ower-priced NBC Series

Should the original Law & Order not get picked up by NBC at next week's upfronts, TNT has offered a home for the tried-and-true procedural, it was first reported by Broadcasting & Cable. Though the cabler is anxious to boost the lagging ratings of L&O reruns by supplementing them with fresh fare, the scenario is considered a long shot: While TNT would only order 13 new episodes (versus the standard 22), Dick Wolf's production company would still need to trim the overhead further  meaning considerably  to make it feasible. One possible cost-cutter: a dramatic decrease in funding to the Elisabeth Rohm School of Acting.

Veronica Mars Boss: "I Kind of Like Our Chances"

The trades are confirming that which Ausiello told you on Tuesday: CW prez Dawn Ostoff reportedly was impressed with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas' proposal to fast-forward the series a few years and plop 'Ron in the FBI, suggesting that the cult hit's long-ridden bubble isn't about to pop. "Reports of our demise have been exaggerated. We are very much in the hunt for a shot next year," Thomas tells Variety. "USA Today declared us dead, the L.A. Times declared us dead. I don't think we're dead; I kind of like our chances."Me, as I shared in Ausiello's blog, I'm just worried about the rumored title change, that the CW will give us something like, "Doncha Wish Your Federal Agent Was Hot Like Me."
