Season 2 of the historical drama series set in XVII century France starts four years after the previous season, with the Palace of Versailles now completely built and admired by the entire world. Now fully understanding the extent of his power, King Louis XIV (George Blagden) prepares to invade Holland, while also tending to Madame de Montespan (Anna Brewster), who is pregnant with his child. As the season progresses, the King's attention is divided between the war and the women in his life: Madame de Montespan, Madame Scarron (Catherine Walker) and Queen Marie-Therese (Elisa Lasowski).
