8 Episodes 2012 - 2012
Scottish producer Armando Iannucci ("The Thick of It") created this comedy that follows the (rare) ups and (mostly) downs of U.S. vice president Selina Meyer (Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and her inner circle, including chief of staff Amy (Anna Chlumsky), personal aide Gary (Tony Hale), communications director Mike (Matt Walsh), deputy communications director Dan (Reid Scott) and personal assistant Sue (Sufe Bradshaw), who all display varying levels of incompetence but can always gang up on hapless White House liaison Jonah (Timothy Simons). A former senator and one-time presidential candidate, Selina plays second banana to an unseen executive in one fruitless attempt after another to curry favor with a high and mighty White House, which never lets her forget that her position has no effect on policy. Nevertheless, Selina's duties in the first season include crafting a legacy with a Clean Jobs Commission; a photo op at a Washington, D.C., yogurt shop that named a flavor for her; and endorsing a gubernatorial candidate (Dan Bakkedahl) in Ohio—who refuses her support due to her low approval ratings.
