China Anne McClain Grows Up Fast as an 11-Year-Old High Schooler in Disney's A.N.T. Farm
High school is hard enough for teenagers — now picture enrolling before you've hit puberty. In new Disney Channel series A.N.T. Farm, 11-year-old Chyna Parks, played by China Anne McClain, attends high school as part of its Advanced Natural Talents program for gifted students. Chyna, along with best friends Olive (Sierra McCormick) and Fletcher (Jake Short), struggles to fit in with the older teens who aren't too fond of the grade-skipping kids. And Chyna doesn't exactly rub the upper-classmen the right way at first. "Chyna really doesn't care what the high schoolers say or what they think about her," McClain, who is 12, says. "She says, 'Move out of my way I'm going to make my big entrance.'" Chyna demonstrated that outlook in the show's preview episode last month where she invites herself to a high school party. After her classmates do their best to cause trouble for her, Chyna shines — and also saves the day.

TBS' half of Turner's Wednesday upfronts presentation kicked off with renewal news for Tyler Perry's House of Payne (returning in June) and 10 Items or Less. The laugh-centric cabler then announced a development slate featuring:• National Banana Already in Progress, a late-night sketch show exec-produced by Jerry Zucker (Airplane!).• A scripted comedy produced by Def Jam's Russell Simmons and starring Run DMC's "Run."• A half-hour laffer exec-produced by and starring William H. Macy.• A late-night reality series which returns middle-aged men to their frat boy days. NAACP Awards: Grey's, Tyler Perry Are Big Winners
While The Great Debaters dominated the film categories at Thursday's NAACP Image Awards — it turned eight nods into a quartet of wins (including best motion picture and acting kudos for Denzel Washington and Jurnee Smollett) — Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Grey's Anatomy emerged as the most-lauded TV series. Grey's walked away with drama series and writing team honors, while Chandra Wilson scored best supporting actress. TBS' House of Payne, meanwhile, was named best comedy series, while LaVan Davis and Lance Gross won for lead and supporting actor in a comedy, respectively.In the other TV races, Ugly Betty's America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams won for lead and supporting comedy actress; CSI: NY's Hill Harper and The Unit's Regina Taylor copped the top prizes on the drama side; and House's Omar Epps took home the supporting actor/drama trophy.
