Precious was the belle of the ball at the 41st Annual NAACP Image Awards Friday, grabbing six trophies.
The film, also nominated for six Academy Awards, snagged best film, best independent film, best director for Lee Daniels, best writing, best supporting actress for Mo'Nique, and best actress for newcomer Gabourey Sidibe.
NAACP chairman's award recipient Tyler Perry was the night's other big winner. Tyler Perry's House of Payne won four awards, including best comedy series, and Adam Rodriguez nabbed best supporting actor in a film for Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself.
Also on the small screen, Lincoln Heights won best drama series while Jada Pinkett Smith (HawthoRNe) and Hill Harper (CSI: NY) won best dramatic actress and actor, respectively. Darryl "Chill" Mitchell took home best comedy actor for Brothers. Gifted Hands was honored with best TV movie, best actor (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and best actress (Kimberly Elise).
In music, Mary J. Blige won top honors for best female artist and best album. Maxwell received best male artist and Black Eyed Peas were named the best duo or group. Keri Hilson received best new artist.
Other winners included Morgan Freeman for best actor in Invictus and Grey's Anatomy's Chandra Wilson for best directing in a drama series.
