Hotel heiress Paris Hilton and notorious party girl Nicole Richie drop their money and pick up some working gear in this one-of-a-kind reality series. The girls are asked to give up their money, credit cards, and cell phones to live what they call "The Simple Life." They soon discover that things are not so simple once they arrive at a farm in Arkansas for the show's first season. In the second installment, the girls travel from Florida to Beverly Hills, and along the way they take numerous jobs in exchange for money. In the third season they travel by bus to Upper Manhattan and take jobs as interns. Wives of America startled to hear that the girls would spend the fourth season taking on homemaker/mom roles. By now it was know that Paris and Nicole hated each other and were no longer friends. In the fifth and final season, the girls made up and spent a summer as camp counselors. Many who crossed their paths learned that they are much more of a handful than they expected.

It's official! Nicole Richie and her BF Joel Madden have a baby girl, named Harlow Winter Kate Madden, People reports. Mini-Madden was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Friday, and weighed in at 6 lbs., 7 oz. Despite the uproar over Nicole's health at the outset of her pregnancy, little Harlow seems to have appeared on the scene just fine. Simple Life Calls It Quits

The Simple Life is over for Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. The Aug. 5 episode will be the last for the reality series that featured the rich gals taking jobs and mixing with common folks. Ratings for The Simple Life, which started on Fox back in 2003 and now airs on E!, declined while Hilton's DUI case and subsequent imprisonment became an ongoing cable-news saga. A source at E! said there are no plans to launch a new program with Hilton, citing her recent overexposure. "She needs to take a TV nap," the source said.  Reporting by Stephen Battaglio

Nicole Richie Pleads Guilty to DUI

Nicole Richie, 25, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence this morning and was sentenced to serve 96 hours in jail.Richie was credited for six hours of time served for her post arrest jailstint, meaning shell actually serve 90 hours, says Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.Richie was fined $2,048 and ordered to undertake 21 days of an alcohol education course. She must complete her 90 hours by September 28.The Simple Life star was arrested December 11 after police say she drove the wrong way on a California highway. Robison also says Richie was given three years probation and was admonishedby the judge that she must stay clean and cannot be arrested for any other offense. If she violates probation in any way, shell face more jail, and that will be up to a year. This was Richies second DUI conviction.It has not been determined whether she will serve her sentence in the Los Angeles County or City jail. W...

Paris Hilton's overexposed... time behind bars didn't just take its toll on the heiress' day-to-day managing of her corporate empire, but it also crippled the ratings for The Simple Life, which this season presented Par and Nicole as camp(y) counselors. "We all thought the publicity would help the show; we were wrong. It's not doing well," TV Week quotes E! CEO ("CE!O"?) Ted Harbert as saying at a TCA function. Harbert explained that people watched Simple Life to see what Paris was really like, but no longer need the show to do that. As such, "I'm not sure we're going to do any more [seasons]. The fourth season of E!'s The Simple Life, now in production, will not only proffer Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as camp counselors, but in one specific instance have the wafer-thin celebunots mentoring overweight kids. A rep for the reality series, though, insists to the New York Post's Page Six that the stop isn't at a "fat camp" per se, but a "wellness camp focused on eating right, yoga, nutrition and exercise." Add in "crotch flashing" and "drunk driving," and I think the gals can really get somewhere with these rugrats.

With an audience of 5.2 million total viewers, the Friday return of USA Network's Monk was the night's most-watched basic-cable program in prime time. Lead-out Psych, alas, drew just 3.8 million, a steep drop from the series' July debut (6.1 mil).... As reported yesterday, E! has announced a spring 2006 premiere for The Simple Life: Until Death Do Us Part — 10 all-new episodes of the onetime Fox reality series. The fourth season of Simple Life will find Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie taking turns running a household and playing wife and mother to a husband and kids. Each family will then vote on which celebutante is a "keeper."

Question: Are the networks really fighting over The Simple Life? Answer: Well, "fighting" may be a bit of an exaggeration, but it's true that several outlets have expressed serious interest. Although there's still no deal, I'm hearing that VH1 recently moved to the front of the pack. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an announcement later this week.

Fox may not have room on its schedule for it, but, as TVGuide.com previously reported, The Simple Life will go on for Paris Hilton and ex-gal-pal Nicole Richie. "We're shooting Nov. 1," says Hilton. "All the networks are fighting over it." OK, maybe not CNN or BET, but I think you get her point.
