Everybody loves somebody sometime, and America certainly loved Dino, making his variety hour a long-running hit. The genial, laid-back Martin was in great voice and didn't take himself (or the show) too seriously. Plus, there were regulars and big-name guests to share the workload. There was tinkering with the format over the years (including the introduction of celebrity roasts), but through it all remained pianist Ken Lane, Les Brown and his Band of Renown, and the host's easygoing charm.
