A fictitious Democratic presidential candidate hits the campaign trail in this groundbreaking series directed by Robert Altman and written by 'Doonesbury' cartoonist Garry Trudeau. Shot in cinéma-vérité style, its use of such figures as Bob Dole, Gary Hart, Gloria Steinem, Ralph Nader and Pat Robertson playing themselves added even more verisimilitude. In 2004, Altman and Trudeau revived the concept, with Tanner's daughter Alex seeking financing for a documentary about a run for the presidency.
