Arriving in the idyllic little village of Little Stempington Joyce and Jeremy Hazledine believe that they have escaped the big city rat-race at last. This feeling is further enhanced when two of their new neighbours arrive with welcome baskets. However, the nightmare begins when Joyce accepts a seemingly innocent invitation from Camilla Diamond to tour the village and ends up blowing up the local Wicker Barn. Later, she gives a lift to another villager who offers her tea and explains the reasons behind the secret turf war between rival gangs of power-crazed housewives.

Joyce's nerves are in a frazzle. She's discovered that her neighbours are involved in a gang war and Barbara wants her to be an insider in Camilla's gang in order to bring her down. Unfortunately for Joyce, Camilla wants her to menace the local librarian for more protection money as her first job - one that goes badly wrong. Meanwhile Jeremy settles into his new job at the police station and learns from colleague P.C. Haines about what happened to his predecessor.

Joyce and Jeremy's son Bill arrives in the village and immediately attracts the attention of Camilla's daughter Jewel, who is eager to get to know him better. Meanwhile Camilla has spotted a lucrative new business opportunity when she sees a TV advert for HRT patches for women that work as a aphrodisiac and decides she wants in on it. She plans a business arrangement with French drug dealer Emile Lesoux, but believes she is being undercut by his go between Alan Handydale. Arranging for her associates Hilary and Lillian to deal with him, Camilla decides that she needs a French interpreter to take with her to deal with Emile, so she decides to take Joyce, who's none too happy about it.

Camilla is planning a Botox party, unaware that Barbara has sabotaged her home, leading to Camilla desperately looking for a plumber to remove the odour. Everyone else seems in a haze. Camilla's daughter Jewel has nipped out with Joyce's son Bill to the park, where they end up stoned smoking drugs. Meanwhile Joyce and Lillian are having side effects after being forced to wear the HRT Viagra patches as Camilla wants to check for side effects. While Lillian goes all feminine, Joyce is disturbed to find that she quite fancies her - and visa versa.

Camilla wants £40,000 from Joyce or her husband Jeremy will be taken out in a hit by Lillian. Desperate for help, she goes to Barbara, who has captured a wandering roadie putting posters up about an upcoming rave. Learning his boss is DJ Ru, a notorious drug dealer, they plot to ambush his van of money and Joyce sees a window of opportunity for her. Meanwhile an oblivious Jeremy is becoming suspicious about the lack of crime in Little Stemptington, while Jewel persuades Bill to plot a Romeo and Juliet style visit to her home at night while her parents are out.

Camilla plans to use the stolen money to pay for the HRT Viagra patches with the Marseilles cartel run by Emile Lesoux, unaware that her daughter Jewel and boyfriend Bill have discovered it and taken it. Oblivious to this, she arranges for them all (including a reluctant Joyce) to travel to France to do the deal. But Barbara and the gang are suspicious of this trip abroad and decide to follow them. Meanwhile Bill is suspicious about how Camilla could of had so much money - unfortunately Jewel has already spent a quarter of the money.

Joyce's husband is getting suspicious. He has already overheard the voicemail on her answering machine after Emile Lesoux, the French drug dealer, phoned her after the farce of the attempted drug deal, and now believes she is having an affair. Joyce discovers the missing money and who took it and plans a deal with Emile, but Camilla is not going to be happy when she discovers who took it. She and Barbara meanwhile have their thoughts turned to a planned booze up in the village, with plans to sabotage the event.

Jeremy thinks that Joyce has left him, but the truth is far darker. For Joyce has been kidnapped by drug dealer Emile Lesoux, who wants his money and to know who shot him in France. Bill cannot believe his mother would leave them and with girlfriend Jewel decides to look for her. Meanwhile Barbara and Camilla prepare for the village auction, unaware that Emile is heading their way looking for revenge.
