Day at the Beach

It's no day at the beach when the Beenes spend a day at the Capri Beach Club. First, there's Charlotte's fashion faux pas: her bathing suit is out of style. Meanwhile, the arrogant couple from the membership committee knock back drinks at a pace Charlotte and Jerry can't begin to match. As for Ted, the "older woman" (Wendie Malick) who offers romantic advice turns out to be more than he can handle. And Oliver? He gets a chance to be the swimming partner of his beloved Bonnie. But he can't swim.

Home, A Loan

Charlotte and Jerry leave the boys home alone for the first time when they visit a college classmate of Jerry's in Great Neck. Chaos ensues on two fronts. At home, it's caused by Ted's dimwitted friend Harvey (A.J. Trauth), who picks the wrong psychotic neighbor to insult. And in Great Neck? Jerry hasn't seen the classmate (Kurt Fuller) since the man borrowed $100 from him---in 1947, and Jerry hasn't forgotten. So he's quite annoyed when they arrive at his house and see that it's a mansion.

Oliver decides that he needs an "image change," so he becomes a schoolyard daredevil. The strategy works only too well after he inadvertently injures the school's only black student (Robert Bailey Jr.): neither he nor his father (Jeffrey D. Sams) think it was inadvertent, and the Beenes suddenly develop a reputation as bigots. How to counter this? Guess who's coming to dinner? First, though, Charlotte (Wendy Makkena) must decide: "Our food or theirs?"

While looking for a hat in a closet, Oliver and his friend Michael (Taylor Emerson) find a girlie magazine belonging to Michael's father, Jerry (Grant Shaud). The racy rag develops a life of its own (as does one of the models in it) when Michael's mother (Lisa Waltz) comes home before they can return it. Then, Oliver's brother (Andrew Lawrence) takes it to school the next day. Meanwhile, Jerry hires a buxom office assistant (Malia Mathis).

Lord of the Bees

Oliver seeks revenge on a bratty smart girl (Amy Bruckner ) who's always picking on him, and he just might get it in the school geography bee, even though he's terrible at geography. (No, he learns, neither Budapest nor Bucharest is the capital of New York State.) Meanwhile, a patient who doesn't have enough money to pay Jerry gives him a ping-pong table instead, which leads, in a roundabout way, to a life lesson for Ted.

Oliver can't dance, and when he has to do it in gym class (yes, gym class) the results are disastrous. Meanwhile, Jerry and Charlotte are at odds over charades; and Ted thinks the Russian-born super in their building (Victor Raider-Wexler) is a commie spy. Divorce-o-Rama

Oliver's joy at the chance to win a "Thunderbird Jr" on the "Romperama" TV show is tempered by a fear that his parents are splitting up. He's already freaked out because his friend Joyce's parents have separated, and he sees "all the signs" of impending divorce in his parents. Meanwhile, big brother Ted is being dragged to "Romperama" (it's decidedly uncool for kids his age), so he feels he must make a public statement about it. Ringmaster Bob: Stephen Tobolowsky.

Oliver's Best Friend

After some persuading, Jerry and Charlotte get Oliver a dog. Unfortunately, the dog hates him (and charms everyone else, of course). Meanwhile, a girl Ted has his eye on has her eye on a budding artist, so Ted decides to try photography. And Jerry decides he needs his own "place" in the apartment, putting him in Charlotte's doghouse.
