NYPD officer prepares for work, while talking with her sister. A letter from the FBI is given to the officer detailing that her application has been denied. While working a subway station, the officer is notified of a body near the tracks. The officer is able to stop an oncoming train in order to preserve evidence that was left neatly on the rail. Soon after, she is taken to meet the great Lincoln Rhymes who explains that this may be the work of one of the most infamous serial killers in decades. Coincidentally, this is also the man responsible for Lincoln's paralysis.
