Anthony Anderson Eats America for Food Network

To call Anthony Anderson a foodie is a bit of an understatement. The 43-year-old actor has competed on Food Network's Chopped, judged episodes of Iron Chef America, and has vowed to go to culinary school. "Within the next couple of years," Anderson specifies. "The kids will be off at college, the bills will be paid, and I won't have to worry about anything except how I'm gonna make this Alfredo sauce from scratch." So when Food Network was pitched the idea to tour the U.S. in search of the nation's coolest food festivals, they had the perfect host in mind. "I said, 'That's right up my alley, let's make that happen,'" Anderson recalls. The result is Eating America With Anthony Anderson, which premieres Monday, July 28 at 9/8c.

Chef Ludo Lefebvre is psyched for viewers to watch Tuesday's episode of The Taste (8/7c, ABC), when the culinary reality series shifts from the audition to competition rounds. Now that he and his fellow mentors -- Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson and Brian Malarkey -- have chosen their four-person teams of home cooks and professional chefs, it's time to pit them against each other. Beyond the increased heat in the kitchen, the possibility of eliminating one of their own team members during the blind taste-test drove the mentors to drink.

Chef Spike Mendelsohn may have competed on Bravo's culinary reality show Top Chef -- twice -- but he still didn't expect to be recruited for Food Network's Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs, which premieres Sunday at 9/8c. "I got the phone call out of nowhere. I was actually quite surprised," Mendelsohn tells TVGuide.com. "I didn't expect them to cast me as part of this crew, alongside the other ones. I was definitely honored to have the opportunity. There are a lot of chefs involved that I look up to and I follow their careers. To be standing next to them, was kind of like, 'OK, you made it.'"

Food Network Is Still Hot for Mario Batali

Pots and pans have been rattling with rumors that Food Network has fired its longtime stalwart Mario Batali. As the story went, Batali said he wouldnt do Iron Chef America unless the culinary channel renewed his series Molto Mario. The network reportedly said no, and Batali picked up his cutlery and left. We went to the man himself for confirmation. "Not true!" Batali tells TV Guide emphatically. "Im taping two episodes of Iron Chef America in a few weeks. Im the best Iron Chef, why would I quit? And why would I threaten the network? Molto Marios been out of production for two-and-a-half years. [Reruns still air weekly.] We have a fine relationship." A channel spokesperson backs him up: "Mario is still a major part of the Food Network family," she says. But Batali, whose empire includes a bevy of pricy eateries in New York and L.A., does admit that the network has changed since the days that top chefs like Sara Moulton and he brought haute cuisine to the mass...
