It's been five years since CBS premiered Harper's Island, and in the words of another famous island inhabitant, "We have to go back!" A woefully underrated horror murder mystery, the 13-episode series, which is available on Netflix, follows a group of family and friends that heads to the titular locale for a destination wedding, only to learn that there's a killer among them. At least one character gets whacked each episode, always in spectacular fashion. It was awesome, and it got the shaft (no pun intended). CBS canceled the show after moving it from Thursdays to Saturdays, natch, but if they know what's good for them, they'd bring back the dead. Death became Harper's Island Saturday when the limited series wrapped up with two big (but maybe not-so-surprising) reveals: The second killer and John Wakefield's child both turned out to be the groom, Henry (Christopher Gorham). If the murderous rampage wasn't enough, Henry also shared that he did it all for the love of his life: his half-sister Abby (Elaine Cassidy). Creepy? Yes, but Gorham, who didn't find out he was the killer until after filming seven episodes, "loved it," he tells TVGuide.com. "I immediately bought a scary-looking knife that I kept in my pocket that no one knew I had. I was armed from the next day." Harper's Island Takes a Stab at New Saturday Slot
Because Harper's Island is making a killing in the land of DVR playback and online screaming streaming, CBS is shuttling the slasher series to Saturdays at 9 pm/ET, effectively immediately. Though many deem that destination a "death slot," CBS senior executive VP Kelly Kahl posits that the preliminary returns on the freshman series' DVR+7 playback and online streaming data "suggest a passionate audience for Harper's outside its current Thursday time period borders.
Supernatural, Harper's Island Star Talks of Life and Death
Life is twice as nice for fans of Jim Beaver starting this Thursday, when at 9 pm/ET they can find him playing Bobby in fresh episodes of the CW's Supernatural, then at 10 watch him play sheriff on CBS' Harper's Island.That, however, is far from all Beaver has going on. Over the course of 13 and only 13 episodes, a killer sets his or her sights on the guests at a destination wedding, having at 'em the way a drunk best man has at an insecure bridesmaid. Among the cornucopia of characters, Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) plays the groom, while Harry Hamlin is his fun- and ladies-loving Uncle Marty.
