On the verge of finalizing his divorce from the self-absorbed Neesee, the mother of their endearing five-year-old son Bobby, Jr., he is madly in love with Tia, a funny, clever kindergarten teacher. Malcolm McGee is a responsible, sensible twentysomething who ends up sharing a Kansas City apartment and a business venture with relentlessly-enthusiastic tow-truck owner Eddie Sherman, a fast talker with outlandish frenetic energy. Young acting pastor David Randolph (David Ramsey) is designated to Compton, California's African American Church of Life. Initially, the majority of the church's members balk at the young pastor's new position and resent him for replacing their former pastor. With help from the church's secretary, Vera Hudson (Rose Jackson Moye), Randolph attempts to reunite the church and help his congregation.

Ernest Pratt, a dime-store novelist in the old west, lives with his scientist friend Professor Janos Bartok in the small town of Sheridan, Colorado. The people of Sheridan mistakenly believe that Pratt, a drinker, gambler, and womanizer, is the audacious and pure hero of his novels, Nicodemus Legend. Bartok and his associate, Ramos, convince Pratt to assume the Legend persona while supplying him with Legend-like futuristic gadgets that they invent. Together, Bartok and the reluctant Pratt (as Legend), adventure throughout the west solving mysteries, capturing wrong-doers, and even making scientific discoveries.

Picking up where Disney's animated film Tarzan (1999) left off, Tarzan is reunited with his animal family while assuming greater responsibilities as the successor to Kerchak. Tarzan, now king of the beasts, must protect the wildlife and the jungle itself. Tarzan also continues to learn about humans through the teachings of Jane.
