Sexual intrigue ran neck-and-neck with police intrigue in the six-part British miniseries Undercover Heart. The three main characters were all members of the same London undercover detective unit: Tom Howarth (Steven Mackintosh); his wife, Sarah May (Lisa Coleman); and Tom's best friend, Matt Lomas (Lennie James). While posing as a pimp to smash a prositution ring, Tom disappeared, and his "prostie" was found murdered. Unit chief Jim Ryan (David Troughton) dispatched Sarah and Matt to look for the missing Tom. The two cops did what was expected of them, but always with a strong and overwhelming sense of guilt -- it so happened that Sarah and Matt were in the middle of a clandestine affair. The first 50-minute episode of Undercover Heart was telecast by BBC1 on October 1, 1998; the series was rebroadcast in America beginning January 12, 2000.
A superb seven-part BBC series tracing the life of naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-82), from his university days through his five-year exploratory voyage on the HMS Beagle to the controversy surrounding the 1859 publication of his landmark 'On the Origin of Species.'
