Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Wants Revenge.

Following the wedding that didn't happen, Rebecca goes missing without Paula even knowing where she is. When Rebecca finally emerges two weeks later, she does so with a new look and a new outlook on life, especially concerning her vow at the wedding about Josh. The girl squad - Paula, Valencia and Heather - are there for her, but the three have to decide how far to let Rebecca run with what are half baked ideas coming from a clearly not thinking Rebecca. During Rebecca's return, Nathaniel's action are meant to seem casual but end up being more obvious than he wants. Meanwhile, Scott is willing to jump through all the hoops that Paula has placed for him for them to repair their marriage to the point that she will allow him back into their bed. Paula is surprised not so much by the final outcome but by something that happens in the aftermath of that outcome. And Darryl and White Josh's relationship hits a crossroads as Darryl forces the issue of having a child together. This crossroads is more manifested in Darryl's actions regarding Josh believing he finally having come to the perfect protein bar he wants to market, it having been a two year process thus far.

All her attempts and those of her friends to destroy Josh's life, either actually carried out or only suggested, has left Rebecca feeling oddly unfulfilled. She believes it's because none of those plans has been nasty enough. So she turns to who she believes is the nastiest person she knows to come up with a suitable plan: Nathaniel. Although she knows that Nathaniel is at a point in his emotions that he would probably do anything that she asked, she is unaware that he has made a vow to himself to return to his old self in being cold-hearted, especially toward Rebecca, not wanting her to play into his emotions. Rebecca does offer him a proposition to help her, it being something that he may not be able to resist. Through the process, Rebecca may come to a realization of what she actually wants to achieve in destroying Josh. Meanwhile, Josh learns what it will take to become a priest, those steps which are far outside what he would consider fun, as opposed to what was his vision solely of the fun things that priests do, such as giving parishioners wafers and wine during communion. He tries to convince himself that he truly will go through with becoming a priest, despite the obstacles, as he compares it to what he considers is the less appealing alternative. And talk in the office, specifically between Tim, Maya, Mrs. Hernandez and Paula to an extent isTim's sex life with his wife of eleven years, where he is certain that he has brought her to the point of orgasm every single time they've had sex in her verbal praise after the fact. Maya and Mrs. Hernandez point him to some signs that may show him that his and his wife's sex life reality is not what he believes.

Josh Is a Liar.

After the initial rush and exhilaration of telling Josh off at the church, Rebecca realizes that she told him everything, information that he could use to incriminate her against everyone she knows. Her anxiety kicks into high gear, it manifesting itself in she having herself to who to talk. Her alter ego informs her that that incriminating information would be worth even more to Josh if she goes through with the lawsuit. So she has to figure out a way to stop Paula from working on it without telling her the real reason why. Things take a turn when Rebecca learns that Josh is leaving seminary school and returning to West Covina, she assuming he planning on telling everyone everything he knows. So Rebecca and her alter ego resort to Plan B, which may have a more devastating effect on Josh if it succeeds. On the other side, Josh contemplates going to the unknown, the question in this case being whether he has the nerve to find out what that unknown is. Elsewhere, Nathaniel does not want to admit to himself or anyone not only that he thinks he has feelings for Rebecca, but that he has feelings, period. George takes a new tact in getting his job at the law office back. And Heather receives the most devastating news that will alter the course of her life, unless she can find a way out of it.

Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Is Crazy.

In feeling that her friends are ganging up on her in the revelation about her past life with Robert, Rebecca goes into hiding. In hiding, Rebecca, stemming from a discussion with who will be her new confidante, Jarl, a movie buff, especially of the movies of Danish-Americans who have made it big in Hollywood, Rebecca goes on a new mission with regard to Josh. The question in her matter becomes how far she will go to achieve her goal, and if Josh, who is trying to return to some normalcy and stability in his life, will realize what Rebecca is doing before it's too late. Rebecca's friends, knowing that she is in trouble, go on a search for her. In the process, they each have the time to digest Rebecca's vitriolic words to them, which they know were said in the heat of the moment of a proverbial "caged animal", but which had a grain of truth underneath the vitriol.

I Never Want to See Josh Again.

Feeling like the life as she has known it in West Covina is totally destroyed, Rebecca, invited by her mother on Paula's plea of which Rebecca is unaware, retreats to Scarsdale with no outward plan for her future. As such, Naomi decides to take control of her daughter's life, which means working toward getting Rebecca's old New York life back for her, however unhappy and messed up Rebecca was in that life. When Naomi secretly learns Rebecca's true intention, Naomi has to come up with a Plan B. Meanwhile, Nathaniel has no choice but to hire someone to fill the vacancy left by Rebecca's absence, that lawyer being Cornelia Wigfield. Those in the office that felt they had some affinity with Rebecca transfer those feelings to Cornelia regardless of how alike or more unalike Cornelia is to Rebecca. The one person who tries to resist the urge to see Cornelia as a trigger to feelings of Rebecca is Nathaniel himself. One other person who is not party to these office goings-on is Paula, who, in her depression about Rebecca, is taking sick time. Scott, who understands Paula's feelings, hopes that he and the boys can help in getting Paula out of her funk in Paula's outward statement of wanting to spend more time with her family, however unnatural that Proctor together time is for all four of them.

Josh Is Irrelevant.

Rebecca is recovering in the hospital under the joint care of Dr. Akopian and a doctor new to her case, Dr. Daniel Shin. She is buoyed to hear from Dr. Shin that he, in consultation with Dr. Akopian who Rebecca implicitly trusts, believes she has been misdiagnosed, and that he will discuss his diagnosis and its treatment, which does not center on medication, with her at their first out patient session. Her euphoria turns one hundred eighty degrees when she hears the diagnosis and doesn't follow what Dr. Shin tells her to do, or more specifically what not to do. She has to figure out how to handle this new information in its entirety. Meanwhile, each member of the girl group, and by association Hector in his new role as Heather's boyfriend, has largely self-appointed herself in a specific set of tasks in this tenuous time for Rebecca. In the process, Valencia in particular may come to a realization why she is dealing with her task in the way she is. Beyond what Rebecca tried to do, Nathaniel is having a difficult time trying to process his emotions over the situation. He eventually believes he understands why he is feeling the way he is and requires some answers from his closed parents, most specifically his mother, regarding an incident from his childhood to deal with it properly. And Josh feels like he is the cause of Rebecca's problems and wants to make amends regardless of the fact that no one else seems to think he doing anything for Rebecca, especially at this time, is such a good idea.

Getting Over Jeff.

Rebecca goes overboard again, this time in the homework she does under therapy with Dr. Shin. In response, Dr. Shin wants her to dial-it-down to find some joy back in life. Elsewhere, Paula finds that in her effort to be more of a wife and mother, that her family has worked out a routine without her in the expectation that she will soon enough again find something else on which to focus her energies, whether it be Rebecca or someone/something else. As such, Paula reluctantly decides to oblige her mother's request to go back to Buffalo - while she herself needs to be out of town - to take care of Paula's recuperating alcoholic redneck father, Bob O'Brien, with who Paula does not get along. Rebecca tags along in the thought of the fun of hanging out with her best friend. However, things don't go quite as either Paula or Rebecca thought in Buffalo as Rebecca bonds with Bob while she figures out what fun she can or cannot have under therapy, while Paula, without telling either her father or Rebecca, reconnects with who she considers her Josh Chan, namely her first boyfriend, Jeff Channington. Meanwhile, Josh is feeling at a loss of what to do with his life after no longer considering the priesthood and being laid off from the electronics store, as he has no idea what it truly means to be a grown-up. He ultimately accepts Kevin's offer to tend bar at Home Base, which Josh believes will be only like the fun times in Cocktail (1988). And Madison can perhaps see more clearly than either the two of them that if her father and White Josh cannot bridge the gap that is the baby discussion, there may be no better option for them than to break up.

Nathaniel Needs My Help!

Rebecca and Nathaniel are reaching the stage of being official boyfriend/girlfriend. As such, Rebecca, in the flush of new love, wants to get to know Nathaniel better than just having him be her friend with benefits, and with that information wants to do something extra special for him in a meaningful way. Despite the warnings from Dr. Shin and the others with whom she attends group therapy, Rebecca may not fully comprehend that what she is doing and is planning on doing in being Nathaniel's girlfriend borders on her past history that led to her suicide attempt, with only the name and face having changed. Meanwhile, Josh is at a crossroads in that his mother has asked him to move out, the process of cleaning out his closet symbolic to that crossroads. But Josh may be more focused on the cause of that crossroads than the process. And in the aftermath of his break-up with White Josh, Darryl is still going full steam ahead with having a baby, he deciding on surrogacy. In her excitement about what he is doing and in his confusion, Paula volunteers to be his "shopper" for the egg donor out of the several women listed in the surrogacy clinic's catalog. Paula has only one person picked - catalog number 456H76 - there being no second option. When problems arise in getting an egg from 456H76, Paula does whatever she can to get one of her eggs for Darryl's sake. She may regret doing so. In going through the process, Darryl forgets one important factor: are his own swimmers still active?

Nathaniel Gets the Message!

In Rebecca realizing that she has entered the same obsessive pattern with Nathaniel as she did with Josh leading to her breaking up with him, Dr. Shin encourages Rebecca to transfer her energies and her resulting free time into volunteer work, which may end up in her finding some true passion in life. Rebecca's less than altruistic motives in that volunteering take a turn when she feels that her recent experiences can help save someone emotionally. In deciding what to do about this specific situation, she knows that she may also be hurting a friend yet again if she does decide to help that other someone. Meanwhile, Darryl learns of a risky way potentially to make a lot of money to purchase another expensive egg for the surrogacy, that risk which is only increased with crafty Mrs. Hernandez involved. Josh is exhibiting a newfound confidence to his friends in having a new job as a "paid volunteer fireman", and is looking really good in the process. He can only admit to Father Brah - and even at that not the entire story - that he is still floundering in life in not knowing what he really wants to do, his "paid volunteer fireman" position not being that wanted future. And White Josh and Nathaniel end up finding each other in wallowing in their respective break-ups, which they both tell themselves were mutual rather than the reality of them being the ones who were dumped. They have to figure out a way to make themselves feel better about the situation, while, also admitting, not wanting to turn to food and drink like most people to ruin their ripped bodies.

Oh Nathaniel, It's On!

Without telling Dr. Shin about her decision with respect to Darryl or the means to achieve it, Rebecca has started self-administered, self-directed hormone therapy to produce an egg for Darryl's surrogacy. Feeling good, Rebecca decides that it's time to return to work at the firm, which she figures she can do despite her mother having told Nathaniel that she quit the job on her behalf. Regardless, Nathaniel refuses to let Rebecca return to the firm, quit or be fired. Rebecca also learns that Nathaniel has moved on romantically having a new girlfriend named Mona, with who he has done things which hit Rebecca to her core. Incensed, Rebecca has a new enemy in Nathaniel, on who she vows revenge. Somewhat with her former co-workers behind her, Rebecca enacts a two-part plan to hit Nathaniel where she believes it will hurt him the most. Achieving both parts of the plan, especially the second half, may be more difficult than she anticipates. In the process, both Rebecca and Nathaniel will find that there indeed is a fine line between love and hate. Meanwhile, Heather is still trying to find out who she is in her post-academic life. She likes her job at Home Base but doesn't believe it will be her long term career. Complicating matters is that Hector wants to take their relationship to the next level, which she knows can't happen until she figures out who she is first, and until he moves out of his mother's house, his mother who he still considers his best friend. Either clarifying matters or making them more confusing, Heather, with mixed emotions, accepts Kevin's offer to enter into Home Base's corporate management training program, corporate, unlike the individual outlets, being corporate to the extreme which Heather is not.

Nathaniel and I Are Just Friends!

Big changes abound with Rebecca and her social circle. Rebecca is transitioning from in-patient sessions with Dr. Shin to out-patient sessions back with Dr. Akopian, who feels that this time around things are going to be different for Rebecca. But as Rebecca pours her heart out in the sessions most specifically about having sex and more sex with Nathaniel despite he being in a relationship with Mona, Dr. Akopian may begin to have her doubts, especially as Rebecca vows to call off the sex with Nathaniel at any time in wanting to seem non-commital and thus not obsessed with him. Heather is feeling happy in finally truly believing she has an adult life with her new job managing Home Base outlets, carrying Darryl's baby as his surrogate, and being in a committed co-habitational relationship with Hector. Paula, in her office battles with who she considers the trifecta of morons - Maya, Tim and Jim - calls in her school chum Sunil, who finished second in their class behind Paula, to work at the firm. White Josh is feeling a bit lost in West Covina in the demise of his relationship with Darryl, and thus contemplates going to Mexico to build houses for Habitat for Humanity. And Valencia's event planning business seems to be getting off the ground with who looks to be a lucrative new long term client named Beth. Fast forward eight months and the more things change, the more they may stay the same, especially with this group.

Trent?!

By avoiding him, Rebecca has decided to stop having any sort of personal relationship with Nathaniel, she funneling her energies into being a stereotypical lonely old lady. Her alone time is short-lived when unexpectedly Trent reenters her life, he using whatever means at his disposal to become her boyfriend. He has to resort to blackmail, he still having such ammunition on her beyond the information contained in the envelope he gave to Josh before what was supposed to be Josh and Rebecca's wedding. Despite believing that she had truly turned a corner into normalcy, Rebecca feels she has no other choice but to find something with which to blackmail Trent in return. It may be difficult to convince her old partner in crime, Paula, to join her in this venture, Paula who too feels she has turned a corner and needs to be an upstanding citizen as she works her way toward becoming a full-fledged lawyer. Nathaniel, feeling Rebecca's silence and due partly to something he sees in the office, has to decide if he should move on and truly try to make his relationship with Mona work. If he does decide to do so, it may be difficult for him to convince Mona who, in turn, has felt Nathaniel's silence of late. Meanwhile, Valencia wants her and Beth's event planning business to move to the next level of solely dealing with A-listers despite not having enough B, C and D-listers to sustain the company. Reluctantly on Beth and Josh's urging, Valencia does eventually agree to plan a sweet sixteen party for the younger sister of a high school friend, Josh's interest being that he wants to DJ the event. The goings-on at the party may give Valencia a clearer picture of where she truly fits in her life.

Heather and Darryl are preparing for the baby's delivery, each who approach the imminent big day in divergent and incompatible directions. In light of Rebecca unofficially breaking up with him, Nathaniel has decided to enter into a committed relationship with Mona, they moving into the next step of cohabitation, which they plan to announce to their friends - which will not include Rebecca - at a formal soirée. Both these items have the potential to be overshadowed by the fact that Rebecca has not been sleeping due to recurring nightmares of Trent still stalking her. Those nightmares are despite Trent having stated that he would leave her alone, Paula ensuring that Trent is keeping to his word. Because of what these nightmares signify to her, Rebecca decides to take decisive action to right what she considers the many wrongs she has committed in her life since she arrived in West Covina, regardless of the consequences to her. But the nightmares begin to take over her life as they transform into what seem to be more and more real - or are they truly real?
