I'm interested in the strategy that the networks seem to be going for this year to make up for the extremely lackluster last season, especially over at Fox. I don't know exactly what Fox's expectations for The X Factor were, but I'm guessing that they're somewhat disappointed today. 12.5 million seems a bit of an underperformance, especially given that Two and a Half Men had double that many viewers. I was really surprised that New Girl (which I found absolutely delightful) not only matched Glee's numbers, but in fact did significantly better. Given that New Girl had been available online for several weeks prior, I'm surprised that so many people tuned in. This is perhaps a bit reminiscent of Fox's bold move in previewing the pilot of Glee in the spring after Idol, which paid off ...

 Alphas' Cameron Hicks (Warren Christie) and Nina Theroux (Laura Mennell) have agreed to cool down their burgeoning romance. It's an interesting juxtaposition of morality on the one hand, and rooting for the characters on the other. It also shows all the different shades of grey in the law. If I heard about an incident in real life where police just dropped off someone in a neighborhood when they thought s/he would be killed, I'd be appalled. Yet I understand these characters' motives in this case, like all of them, and want to be on their side. The part of this arc I do love is Mark Pellegrino as Brenda's lawyer Gavin. I love the character and the nuances Pellegrino brings to playing him. Having only seen Pellegrino previously on Lost, and noting how different Gavin is from Jacob, I really appreciate what a fine actor he is. He deserves his own show. Unlike most of the other lawyer shows in recent years on TNT or USA, which I've skipped, I'd definitely watch a show centered around this ...

Syfy Sets Sanctuary Return, Eureka and Warehouse 13 Finales

Ghosts, Abnormals and even Tinker Bell will be populating Syfy this fall. On Tuesday, the network announced the return dates for its shows Sanctuary, Scare Tactics and Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, in addition to the season finales for Eureka, Alphas, Haven and Warehouse 13. The four-hour movie Neverland, starring Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinker Bell, will premiere on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 4 and 5 at 9/8c each night.
