"It's hard to not be a part of it," Paulson, who appeared in every previous season of AHS, told TV Guide at the show's 100th episode celebration on Saturday. But if Paulson gets her way, her absence from the FX anthology won't go on much longer. "I would love to [return for Season 10]," she said. "I need to be a part of it again."
Over the course of Paulson's tenure on AHS, she's played medium Billie Dean Howard (Murder House, Hotel, Apocalypse), journalist Lana Winters (Asylum, Roanoke), witch Cordelia Foxx (Coven, Apocalypse), conjoined twins Bette and Dot (Freak Show), junkie ghost Hypodermic Sally (Hotel), actress Audrey Tindall (Roanoke), suburban mom Ally Mayfair-Richards (Cult), and the power-tripping Wilhemina Venable (Apocalypse).
Of all these characters, perhaps none is more beloved than Cordelia, which is why it was so exciting when Ryan Murphy previously revealed plans on bringing the Coven witches back in a future season. While it remains unknown whether that return might be Season 10 or further down the line, Paulson says she'd jump at the chance to reprise the role of the Supreme again.
"Any time I could play Cordelia, I would love to," Paulson shared. "I really loved playing her. And I had a great wig last year [in Apocalypse]. That was fun too."
When it comes to what type of new character she'd like to play in a future AHS installment, Paulson only had one thing on her wish list: "I would like to do something with Evan [Peters]," Paulson said.
In addition to being the first season without Paulson, 1984 is also the first season of AHS not to feature Peters. But Paulson is hoping he would also be open to returning to the anthology. "I miss Evan and I miss acting with Evan. So I'd love to have that experience again," Paulson said. "If he'll come back, I'm back."
American Horror Story: 1984 airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX.
