Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney have called off their engagement. TMZ reports that the couple split earlier this month after five years together, but according to an Instagram post by Gaga, they're just taking a break.
Gaga, 30, was photographed without her engagement ring on Friday, which was Kinney's 35th birthday, prompting speculation the couple had broken up. But according Gaga's Instagram, they still believe they are "soulmates" and are taking a break while they attempt to reconcile the challenges of long-distance romance.
"Please root us on," Gaga asked her fans. "We're just like everybody else and we really love each other."
Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other.
The couple met in 2011 on the set of Gaga's music video for "You and I," in which Kinney co-starred. Kinney was dating another woman at the time, and his ex claims the Golden Globe winner and Chicago Fire star began an affair with Gaga shortly after.
Gaga and Kinney have never been shy about flaunting their love in the years since. Kinney proposed to the singer on Valentine's Day 2015 with a massive heart-shaped diamond ring that has "T (heart) S" written in diamonds on the band. The following year, the couple had sex on a paint canvas — one of Kinney's longtime dreams — for V Magazine.
"We made love on the canvas on a Sunday in Chicago," the American Horror Story: Hotel said at the time. "We made love amidst chaos. We talked about shootings. We made love amidst terrorism and we talked about how people's hearts are also suffering all over the world as they watch and witness a swell of violence. We made love amidst violence."
