In the past, having cable was the only way to watch your favorite shows and movies. But now, the recent advent of streaming has changed things. And many cable subscribers, frustrated with the high price of most cable services, have turned to live TV streamers as an alternative to cable.

In this scramble for a cheaper cable alternative, live TV streamers like Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV have answered the call, touting competitive prices and diverse channel lineups. There's a lot to know about each of these streamers, but today we're calling out a few features for YouTube TV.

The service is relatively new, having launched back in 2017. But in its four-year existence, it has managed to attract over 3M subscribers worldwide, a number that grows daily. To get us started, we'll answer one of the biggest questions potential customers have about streamers in general -- how many devices can you watch with YouTube TV?

What is simultaneous streaming?

Simultaneous streaming refers to the ability of a streaming service to support multiple streams at once. The number of different screens you can watch a service on plays a significant role in determining if one will subscribe to a streamer or not. Generally, most streaming services support at least two simultaneous streams.

You can watch a channel on any television with most cable providers so long as the tv is connected to a cable box. Since that's not always the case with live TV streaming services, the number of simultaneous streams offered by a service can be a significant deciding factor for potential consumers.

How many devices can you watch YouTube TV on at the same time?

You can stream YouTube TV on up to three different screens at a time and is supported by a variety of different devices. This means a YouTube TV subscription may be a good option for smaller households or networks. YouTube TV is compatible with most mobile devices, so if you find yourself within range of a strong internet connection while you're out, you should have no problem tuning into the streamer.

YouTube TV features a diverse lineup of sports channels and events as well. If you live with a bunch of sports fans that all have different interests and favorite teams, YouTube TV might be a good option to tune into multiple sporting events simultaneously.

Last, you should know that in order to stream content simultaneously with YouTube TV, you'll need multiple profiles to do so. If you're watching the Fox channel on one profile, you can't use that same profile to watch another channel. This probably won't be a huge deal for most subscribers, but it's still a worthy callout nonetheless.

How to get more screens on YouTube TV?

Unfortunately, YouTube TV doesn't offer any add-ons to increase the service's number of simultaneous streams. If you are looking for a service that offers more screens, you might consider Hulu + Live TV. The service features an unlimited screens add-on for an additional $10/mo.
