It was too good to be true.
Clare Crawley and Benoit Beausejour-Savard, who got engaged during the finale of the Bachelor Winter Games, have called it quits. They announced the split in a joint Instagram post from Crawley's account late Thursday night.
"We understand A lot of you have been asking about our relationship since the show, and we wanted to thank you all for the love and respect as we navigated it in real life off camera," the caption reads (all sic). "We do understand however, having a public engagement on TV kind of changes that. It's with a heavy heart that we have mutually decided to end our relationship.
"We think the world of eachother, and we were both hoping we could make this work," she continued. "I'm sorry that this may not be what you want to hear, but it's our truth. Just know there are no negative feelings here, we are simply two people who believed in love, and were open enough to give it a chance. We still care for each other very deeply (That is why no hate or disrespectful comments will be tolerated about the other.) Please respect our privacy as well, as with the end of any relationship, it is never easy. Thank you for your understanding and love while we have shared our vulnerability with the world."
Clare -- who became a fan favorite on Juan Pablo Galavis' season of The Bachelor -- and former Bachelorette Canada contestant Benoit met during Winter Games filming and Benoit quickly fell head over heels for Clare. But at the time she was more interested in German Jacuzzi appointment setter Christian, and Benoit left the show with his heart broken. But things quickly fell apart between Clare and Christian, and she regretted letting Benoit go. Whe got her phone back after leaving the show, she found that Benoit had contacted her and they began a relationship in earnest. They got engaged after about two months of dating, which it turns out wasn't enough.
Clare and Benoit announced their split within a few hours of another Winter Games couple, Dean Unglert and Lesley Murphy. Ashley Iaconetti and Kevin Wendt split previously. The only Winter Games couple still together is Courtney Dober and Lily McManus, the adorable Aussie and Kiwi whose cross-country road trip should be a Bachelor special.
