It's the most exciting time of year at Third Street Elementary, the last day of school. But boredom quickly sets in for protagonist T.J. Detweiler as his five best friends are all heading for various summer camps. One day, while passing by the school on his bike, he notices a green glow coming from the auditorium. This is the work of the insidious former principal Dr. Phillium Benedict and his henchmen. He is planning to get rid of summer vacation forever using his newly acquired Tractor Beam, which he stole from the US Military Base in an effort to raise US Test Scores, and it's up to the T.J. and the gang to stop him. In the end, they, along with the help from all the other students, Principal Prickly, Ms. Finster, and the teachers, destroy the laser, Dr. Benedict and his henchmen are arrested, and T.J. and the gang decide to spend summer together.
