Montague Love was given ample opportunity to flex his acting muscles in the Paris-based melodrama Brand of Satan. Love was cast as Jacques Cordet, a highly respected prosecuting attorney who leads a double life as head of a vast criminal organization. Cordet's dual identity has a profound effect on heroine Christine (Gerda Holmes), whose grown son Jacques (J. Herbert Frank) is the result of her earlier illicit relationship with the villain. Ultimately it is the younger Jacques, a famous surgeon, who brings about Cordet's downfall. If there was one thing that actors loved to do besides play dual roles, it was playing characters who aged thirty or more years in the course of the film: The star of Brand of Satan was privileged to do both.
