"Around every bend in the road, someone's got a story to be told." With these words, affable TV personality Harry Smith introduced each episode of the picturesque documentary series Travels With Harry. The project began as a recurring feature on CBS Evening News, with Smith, obviously emulating fellow CBS-er Charles Kuralt, introducing viewers to curious customs, offbeat business enterprises, unsung heroes, and local "eccentrics" throughout the length of the United States. When Smith moved to the A&E cable network in 1998, he brought Travels With Harry along for the ride. This time, however, the project was a full-fledged weekly, half-hour series, which quickly became a mainstay of A&E's weekend-morning manifest.
