Happily married to Ruth with two children Nick is amazed to get a call from first love Serena,who has returned from Canada ostensibly to visit her sister Michelle. Nick knows he should not succumb to temptation but nonetheless spends a night with Serena,lying to his wife that he is with a work colleague. In a moment of madness he suggests going to Canada with her but she knows better and sends him back to his wife - who seems to have guessed what has happened.

Paul
Feeling trapped in his marriage to Michelle Paul is smitten by Stella,a girl he sees at a bus stop,and they plan to run off together. She tells him her mother is in debt and he gives her five thousand pounds,only to discover after she has gone that she is a confidence trickster who has rooked him. However the whole affair makes him see that he should appreciate what he has got with his wife and child.

Holly feels trapped,in an aimless affair with married David and a job teaching bored sixth formers,most of whom don't want to learn. The exception is Karen,who shares Holly's interest in art and soon the two are having a sexual relationship but they are betrayed by another pupil and decide to leave town together.

With her children having left home and her marriage at a stalemate,husband David in an affair with another woman,Sandra feels rejuvenated when Turkish Ismail walks into her shop and they begin an affair. A suspicious David shadows her and resolves to mend his ways but Sandra seems to have found a liberation of her own.

Divorcee Adrian meets Kathy over the Internet and she comes from Hong Kong to England to live with him. Unfortunately Lorraine,an unbalanced school-girl friend of Adrian's daughter Karen has a disturbing crush on him and tries to split the couple up by saying that she is Adrian's lover. Kathy is forced to make a judgment on a man she has only just met in order to find out whether she has a future with him.
