Black Blood

Simple herdsman Paris is stunned when the Greek deities ask him to choose the most beautiful of three goddesses. Denied his promised prize he travels to Troy, where king Priam identifies him as his long-lost son Alexander. His sister Cassandra is less welcoming, foretelling disaster and 'black blood' but Priam sends the young man to Sparta to make an alliance with its ruler Menelaus by marrying his teen-aged daughter Hermione. Paris, however, finds himself drawn to Menelaus's unhappy wife Helen, believing her to be the prize offered by the gods, and asks her to leave with him but she refuses.

Helen stows away on Paris's ship to elope to Troy with him. Hecuba insists she be sent back but after Helen has pleaded her case to stay Priam considers negotiations. However the Spartans are already launching an army, led by Menelaus, his brother Agamemnon and Odysseus. Priam meets with Menelaus and initially agrees to return Helen to him but, having heard the sanctions Menelaus intends to impose on Troy, retracts his decision. Menelaus leaves, threatening to return and destroy the city and the gods of Olympus are divided as they champion opposing sides.

Siege

The Spartans begin their embargo to starve Troy of supplies and Paris joins the workmen digging to find water before setting out with Hector and a group to get help. One of the men is captured and killed after telling Menelaus that Helen has married Paris. Hector Paris reach a prospective ally who tells Hector he must kill Paris but the gods intervene and the pair return to Troy. Helen endears herself to the Trojans by giving the citizens her food but still faces mistrust and lustfulness from certain quarters.

Episode 4

Spoils of War

The Trojans tunnel through to Cilicia to obtain rations but the Cilicians are attacked by the Spartans led by Achilles, who burn the food, capturing those that they do not kill. As a result Priam closes the tunnel but the Spartans are concerned when their prisoners start to die of the plague. They believe it is because they have captured a priest's daughter, Chriseis, leading to a split between Agamemnon and Patroclus. Meanwhile Menelaus arranges a duel with Paris to decide the fate of the city.

Hunted

Paris runs from the duel, fleeing to the hills where he was brought up, Pandarus suggesting to him not to return. Priam feels guilty about the duel, leading to discord with his children. As Breisis gets closer to Achilles a plan is devised to capture Paris whilst Hector gives the Spartans an ultimatum. Nonetheless a stalemate occurs and Paris fails to find help from the gods.

Battle on the Beach

Things look bleak for the Trojans, who bring in conscription, whilst Paris is persuaded to return to Troy and Helen by Penthesilea and her band of female warriors. A message from Aphrodite appears to give the Trojans cause for optimism, leading Helen to reject an offer to leave the city whilst Andromache and Hector celebrate the birth of a son but Hector then agrees to single combat with Achilles, with only one of them surviving.

Episode 7

Twelve Days

Achilles refuses to return Hector's body to the Trojans, given that Hector slew Patroclus, who took Achilles' place in the duel so Priam sets out alone to the Spartan camp to reclaim and bury his son. Achilles is impressed by the aged king's sincerity and grants him his wish, along with a twelve day truce for burial rituals. However Agamemnon and Menelaus are critical of his decision and plan to break the truce. There is evidence of a Spartan spy in the city and Andromache blames Helen but the assault on Troy nonetheless begins.

Episode 8

Offering

When a Spartan prisoner escapes Pandarus - who hangs himself - is thought to have helped him but Priam suspects Helen. Division is split between suing for peace or launching an attack on the besiegers until, leaving the city, the Trojans find an injured Spartan, Thersites, and a huge wooden horse, allegedly full of food. Believing Thersites' claim that the enemy has finally gone, following the death of Achilles, the Trojans take it into their city, despite Cassandra's misgivings. It will prove to be their undoing and the fall of Troy whilst Odysseus sets out on a mission of his own.
