The Woman in White
Sisters Marian (Jessie Buckley) and Laura (Olivia Vinall) live in a big house away from the city in 19th century. The latter falls in love with Walter (Ben Hardy), a painter that is called to the house in order to teach the sisters the art of painting. Although both love each other he is forced to leave because Laura has a fixed marriage with Sir Percival Glyde (Dougray Scott). Things take a dark turn when the real reasons behind that fixed marriage start to unfold.

In 1859 England, young artist Walter Hartright leaves London for Cumberland to teach drawing to half-sisters Marian Halcombe and Laura Fairlie, who reside with their wealthy recluse uncle, Frederick Fairlie, at his grand country home. Before leaving for Cumberland, Walter has a brief and strange encounter in the park with a sad, mysterious young woman in white, who pleads for help and then disappears. Walter overhears a man warning others in the park to beware of a woman in white, whom he says escaped from an asylum. In Cumberland, Walter is struck by Laura's resemblance to the woman in white. When Laura falls in love with Walter, Marian advises caution but, on hearing of his London experience, tells him of a woman called Anne Catherick, who once lived locally. After Laura receives a letter advising her against marrying the wealthy Sir Percival Glyde, Walter meets Anne, who owns to sending the letter, stating her reasons.

Walter informs Marian that Anne told him Glyde put her in an asylum and that she wrote to Laura but Fairlie ejects him when they relay their findings to him and Glyde tells them Anne was a delusional servant girl. Still in love with Walter Laura nonetheless marries Glyde, who now controls her finances. At the Glydes' house Blackwater Marian meets the flamboyant Count Fosco and learns of a woman searching for her missing daughter.

Glyde is angry when Marian tells him Mrs Catherick has been to the house looking for Anne and, his fortune gone, is equally irate when Laura refuses to sign her inheritance over to him. Fosco's wife seems sympathetic but the devious count, aware of Marian's loyalty to her half-sister, attempts to charm her into order the split the pair, involving the countess. Meanwhile Laura meets Anne, her exact double, and believes her account of Glyde's villainy.

Standing on the roof, Marian overhears Glyde and Fosco's plan to seize Laura's inheritance, but she is soaked by rainfall and catches a fever, requiring bed-rest. An exhausted Laura sits with her, but on waking is told Marian has gone to London with Fosco. However she is unable to find her half-sister, whilst the recovering Marian is given devastating news. She determines to avenge Laura, and on Walter's return to England, they visit scrivener Erasmus Nash with their evidence before visiting the asylum where they are told Anne is being held.

Whilst Marian and Walter rescue the traumatized Laura from the asylum where she was admitted as Anne and keep her hidden, Glyde, aware that Walter may have learned his secret from the deceased Anne tries to find him. Walter is given a cryptic clue from Anne's mother which uncovers that secret but Glyde sets out to thwart him, which proves his undoing. Fosco remains at large but Walter learns that he too has a deadly secret which clear the way for Laura and Walter to marry.
