Episode 1
Caroline is the subject of an 'At Home' portrait by television reporter Becky Barnes. After watching a horror film Jo has a nightmare and swaps beds with Caroline whilst Charlie,learning from Tom about his daughter's fears,believes he is getting into bed with Jo to comfort her. Next morning,however,Caroline and Charlie wake up in bed together and are caught on camera by Becky,who is determined to expose them on television. Fortunately Laura has delved into Becky's murky past and is able to use a little coercion to stop the film being shown.
Episode 2

Laura expresses disapproval when Caroline pays for an escort to take her to an awards ceremony,rather than an actual boyfriend so Charlie decides to ask his boss out on their first 'official' date. Unfortunately this takes them to a comedy club where they get picked on by an obnoxious stand-up comic,whom Caroline ends up punching. However,back at the house they relax on the couch and give an impression of a proper date.
Episode 3
Laura and Caroline feel Charlie is over-reacting when he grounds Jo having seen a love bite on her neck given her by boyfriend Gary so he explains his fear to her that boys manipulate girls into having sex. Jo pretends to be in her room but sneaks out to see Gary,only to discover that everything that her father said about him is true and she returns home,accepting that Charlie was only concerned for her.
Episode 4
Caroline is surprised that Charlie's much younger girlfriend Tracy is a trusted employee of fashion designer Armando who arranges an interview for Caroline to advertise Armando's new line. Surrounded by young models Caroline feels old and dresses like a young girl to impress Armando but this has the wrong effect and she loses the contract. At the same time Charlie feels that Tracy's energetic idea of relaxing hobbies is wearing him out as he is not as young as he was.
Episode 5
When twee couple Pam and Mark Harper move in next door Caroline and Charlie are prepared to be friendly but the Harpers antagonize them when they threaten to tear up Charlie's herb garden on disputed land in order to plant roses. The Harpers' daughter Heather and Tom have no such animosity and become sweet on each other. Furthermore they show the adults how to make an acceptable compromise.
Episode 6
Caroline gets a shock when poetry-quoting American Brian Thomas drops in. Sixteen years earlier they married on impulse in Las Vegas and,realising their folly,got a quickie divorce. However Brian announces that the divorce was invalid and he and Caroline are still legally bound. As he is about to marry another woman,Suzanne,he is agreeable when Caroline suggests they divorce properly but whilst enjoying a romantic meal,Brian falls in love with Caroline all over again and opposes the divorce. Caroline calls Suzanne to come over and make Brian see sense.
Episode 7
Charlie's old Transit van needs repairs so,on his birthday,Caroline persuades him to go halves on buying a brand new jeep as a present. He puts the old van up for sale but it has so much sentimental value that he finds reasons not to part with it. Eventually Caroline agrees to his selling his new present to a boy with whom he identifies as his younger self and to using the proceeds to mend the Transit.
Episode 8
Charlie and Caroline are in a hotel on the eve of a reunion football match he is taking her to see. To escape the attentions of voracious old flame Betty Charlier pretends he and Caroline are newly-weds and they are given the bridal suite but,when Caroline sees him kissing Betty,she throws him out of their room. A phone call to Laura rectifies the situation and,on learning that Charlie resisted the temptation to spend the night with Betty,he gets his reward from his 'wife'.
Episode 9
Not only does Charlie's new girlfriend Judy only want to talk about her broken marriage but he gets jealous of Paul,Caroline's charming new work colleague,who delights the family with his magic tricks and spends hours working with and amusing Caroline. Fearing that Paul is using Caroline so that he can steal her business Charlie goes to the hotel where they are staying...and very nearly makes a fool of himself before discovering the truth.
Episode 10
Nick Murray,the father of Charlie's late wife ,turns up out of the blue with expensive presents for Jo. When he says that he does not have long everybody assumes he is dying. In fact he is going to prison for theft,tax evasion and bribery but is happy to play along for the sympathy it affords him - plus a promise from Laura. When Charlie learns the truth he tells Nick to leave immediately but Caroline persuades him that,due to family ties,they should not part on bad terms.
Episode 11
Caroline is excited as she is going on a date with the suave Geoffrey,who has a proposal for her. She is less excited when the proposal turns out to concern a time share on the Isle of Wight and tells him she was expecting him to ask her to marry him. But when he does she is less sure and asks Charlie's opinion. Charlie feels the decision should be Laura's alone but when he does come up with what he thinks she is eternally grateful. Unfortunately this also means no time share.
Episode 12
When Caroline wins Charlie exclusive golf club membership in a raffle he is initially greeted with snobbery until made to feel welcome by wealthy sporting equipment magnate Dennis. So,when Caroline asks him to approach Dennis about being her client Charlie is apprehensive. Eventually he asks Dennis,who is not pleased. Charlie feels bad so Caroline decides to sort things out for him and almost causes further trouble.
Episode 13
Caroline's birthday is coming up but,on two consecutive nights,the family hears her sleep-talking and moaning that she loves Charlie. On the day of her party she is too embarrassed to face the others and goes to a bar to drink alone. Fortunately Charlie goes after her and encourages her to make a birthday wish.
