Season 2 of the drama series is set one year after the events of the previous season, which led to Harold's (Martin Henderson) promotion and Phillip's (Jason Momoa) incarceration. While the newly appointed lieutenant deals with the locals' anger at the tribe receiving federal recognition, Phillip is released from prison and tries to stay out of trouble, despite new problems arising within the community. Meanwhile, Jean (Julianne Nicholson) is still struggling with her mental illness and tries alternative treatments suggested by a local medicine woman.
