THE NEXT GREAT CHEF is an intensely competitive and fast-paced, television documentary series showcasing young chefs across Canada as they fight for the opportunity to become the nation's future star. THE NEXT GREAT CHEF is based on an existing competition organized by the Canadian Culinary Federation. Today, almost every young chef dreams of becoming a television chef. Scores of the young and talented hope to become the next Jamie Oliver, Rob Feenie or Nigela Lawson. THE NEXT GREAT CHEF gives those young professionals a chance to demonstrate their skills and ambitions in front of a national TV audience. But make no mistake: this is not the show about cooking. This show is about young people reaching for their dreams. In 10 half-hour episodes, two contenders from each province face-off in a battle of the culinary arts to win the taste buds and hearts of the jury and television audience. Using ingredients from a surprise black box, the chefs' task is to create a three course meal. Each contestant has a mentor whose job is to advise them throughout the competition. Judging is blind, and after the points are tabulated, the winner is announced. After 10 weeks, the one-hour season finale features the 10 provincial winners battling for the ultimate title of Canada's Next Great Chef. The finale is filmed on location, featuring interviews with the top ten chefs and an exhilarating final ceremony.

Episode 1
Arrival
The search for the Next Great Chef begins. Canada's ten young provincial champions arrive in Victoria for a knock-out tournament. The first competition pits British Columbia against New Brunswick as friendships and rivalries begin to develop.
Episode 2
Winery
The Next Great Chef tournament heats up. Tempers flare during a contentious match between the champions of Ontario and Nova Scotia. And tensions within the group are exposed during a day out at a wine-tasting seminar at world-renowned Sooke Harbour House.
Episode 3
Cooking Marathon
A tight match between Alberta and Quebec ups the ante for the wild card position. The other competitors now realize they are involved in a "cooking marathon" where only one will survive.
Episode 4
Blow Off Steam
The elimination round continues with Prince Edward Island battling Saskatchewan. Two wildly different cooking styles make the judge's job difficult. And the group blows off steam with a go-cart race.
Episode 5
Pressure Cooker
The final match of the elimination round is the most dramatic. A hard-fought battle ends with a shocking surprise. And the young chefs are invited out for an evening of fine dining but few can enjoy it with the pressure of the competition hanging over their heads.

Elimination

Round two begins. Four chefs have been eliminated and are sent home. The wildcard winner is announced giving one chef a second chance. A spot in the semi-finals is up for grabs in today's competition.

Head Games

Even a trip to a tranquil organic farm doesn't stop the chefs from looking for an edge over their fellow competitors. In the competition kitchen the head games continue and two chefs with two very different styles battle for a place in the semi-finals.
Episode 8
Frustration

Frustration and insecurities bubble to the surface as tiredness and tension begin to catch up with the chefs. The wildcard chef gets a second chance and the final spot in the semi-finals is determined.
Episode 9
Outside the Box
It's the first semi-final match and the two highest ranked competitors go head to head. The menus are daring and the cooking frenetic as they pull out all the stops to win. Only one can advance to the final, for the loser the tournament is over.
Episode 10
Almost There
Both competitors take big risks to try and make it to the final. Their exotic plates mean the judges are faced with a tough decision. And a surprise visit encourages the finalists..
Episode 11
Season Finale
The cooking competition of a lifetime reaches its climax. The two finalists have survived the "cooking marathon" and must summon their remaining strength to battle for the ultimate prize - the national championship and the title of "Next Great Chef".
