Mindy Kaling, a veteran of NBC's "The Office" and one of the series' Emmy-nominated writers, is the creator and star of this comedy, which follows ob-gyn Mindy Lahiri, whose professional success does not match the mess that is her personal life—the first season kicks off with a drunken toast at her ex-boyfriend's wedding that leads to an embarrassing brush with the law, and it's all downhill from there. Obsessed with romantic comedies, Mindy dates several men, among them a high-powered lawyer (Tommy Dewey) and a pious minister (Anders Holm), but somehow the relationships never end up like they do in the movies. But if her love life is a circus, it's a carnival at work with her colleagues, including fellow doctors Danny (Chris Messina) and Jeremy (Ed Weeks), nurse Morgan (Ike Barinholtz) and receptionist Betsy (Zoe Jarman). Guest stars include Bill Hader and Chloë Sevigny, and brothers Mark and Jay Duplass as a pair of holistic midwives who try to steal patients from Mindy's practice.
