Where to Watch
Flamboyantly gay British TV comedian/talk show host Julian Clary emceed this weekly Channel 4 series, which was advertised as a game show but was actually a wide-ranging spoof of the entire genre. At the beginning of each half-hour episode, Clary (often as not decked out in drag) selected six contestants at random from the audience, using the note cards that the contestants had filled out ahead of time as launching pads for a steady stream of insults and double-entendre quips. The game portion of the program required the player to answer questions about geography and ethnic culture, though Clary and his writing staff (including satirist Paul Merton) preferred funny answers to the "correct" ones. Each program ended with Clary tunelessly warbling an improvised ballad, accompanied by music-master Russell Churney. Sometimes hilarious, always outrageous, Sticky Moments With Julian Clary debuted in 1989, followed quickly by a sequel of sorts, Sticky Moments on Tour.
