Season 1 of this political drama centers around CIA analyst Charleston "Charlie" Whitney Tucker (Katherine Heigl), who assembles and presents the President's Daily Briefing about the most vital security issues facing the country. The series begins one year after the death of the president's son, who was also Tucker's fiancé. While preparing the PDB, her team becomes aware that an American doctor has been abducted. While all fingers point to terrorist Omar Abdul Fatah, they cannot confirm and Tucker leaves him off the PDB, which puts her in conflict with her CIA director and causes President Constance Payton (Alfre Woodard) to intervene. Despite their efforts, Fatah remains at large and is a continuous threat throughout the season. Also, Tucker encounters a Russian sub hacking into U.S. undersea cables in the Bering Sea, a terrorist group kidnapping 20 girls after a soccer match and a young member of Anonymous infiltrating the White House.
