Chronicling San Francisco's Rockdogs, a gay basketball team, as they live together while preparing for an April 2008 tournament. The Rockdogs won a gold medal at the 2006 Gay Games but then disbanded. As Part 1 begins, there's only to month to go before the tournament, and teammates must renew acquaintances---on and off the court. Their first challenge on the court: a San Franciso Fire Department team. Off the court, meanwhile, Rory and Jamel get into a debate: Is being gay a choice?

Love That Game

The Rockdogs play as hard off the court (clubbing in the Castro) as they do on it---harder, in fact, if morning-after practice is any indication. As they prepare to face the San Francisco Rumble the guys are in need of motivation, and they get it from openly gay NBA alum John Amaechi. Amaechi also counsels Mike, who has yet to come out to his family and some of his friends. Meanwhile, the tournament is just two weeks away and funds are still scarce.

Meanwhile, hoping to prove Papa Joe wrong, Rory and Francis prepare for a fund-raiser---at which the guys will model swimsuits and undergear---to get the team to the National Championships.

A Family That Plays Together ...

NBA alum John Amaechi returns to check in on the Rockdogs prior to the National Gay Championships, but the team is still disorganized. So Coach Alex and Papa Joe arrange a game between original Rockdogs (the "old Dogs") and the current players to promote team cohesion and give the "new Dogs" a sense of the team's history and legacy.

The Big Dance

First-season finale: Some of the Rockdogs visit San Francisco's Glide Memorial Church before the team heads to Chicago for the National Gay Basketball Championships. They're facing six games in two days, and they'll have to play shorthanded because three team stalwarts get sick.
