London's Royal Opera House mounted this slightly visceral adaptation of Richard Strauss's 1905 one-act opera +Salome, about the request of Salome (Herodias's daughter) to have the severed head of John the Baptist delivered to her. Here, Nadja Michael stars as Salome, Michaela Shuster as Herodias and Thomas Moser as Herod; David McVicar directs for the stage, and The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, under the baton of Philippe Jordan, provides added musical accompaniment.
